Dreamcast Japanese Cake BIOS won't read backups

Hey all

So I've recently installed a replacement BIOS into my Dreamcast, and it had the Japanese Cake 1.032 version on it. I've used it before on another Dreamcast, and it worked flawlessly, but for some reason, on this other Dreamcast, it refuses to boot backups beyond the Sega license screen. I reflashed it with link83's BIOS just to test it out, and with that installed, it reads and plays backups with no problem. Anyone else ever run into this issue?

 

Dont use 1.032, use 1.031

 

Oh? Does 1.032 have known issues like that?

 

1.032 has a few issues. Incompatible with some titles etc. 1.031 was/is solid

 

Interesting. I'll give it a shot. Although, I've read that Japanese Cake is incompatible with USB GDROM which I plan on getting soon, is this true?

 

Pretty sure 1.031 works fine. Again, it's a 1.032 issue.

Well I'll be the son of a monkey's uncle, 1.031 works fine. Bizarre how 1.032 would boot backups on one Dreamcast but not on this one, and although it wouldn't boot normal backups, it would boot Dreamshell off a CD. Inconsistently, however.

 

How can I access the extra settings in a region free BIOS?
Im on the setings page, trying all possible button combinations but none works... :/
