Hello ASSembler forum! I have a very weird issue with my DC. My Dreamcast is an extremely early model 0(NTSC-U), I have opened it up and all of the mainboards state KATANA, the pre-release name. I know that is normal for early DC. But here is the problem, my DC only properly plays Japanese games with a boot disc. If I play an NTSC-U game it freezes up no matter the disc. I have inspected the laser and the circuits and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Thanks, Dreamcast_
all DC mainboards is KATANA, from VA0 like yours to latest VA2.1, its code name of this console. at that exactly point games freeze ? that's onscreen then this happens ? so far it sounds like possible damaged/bad flash if you already opened in, can you take photo of mainboard please ? mainly its interesting to see BIOS chip label (Sega MPR-something)
