So, I was setting up my Dreamcast to use the hot swapping method for dumping GD-Rs (in FamilyGuy's topic) and I broke it. It just shows the Dreamcast logo briefly and then goes straight to the 'play / whatever' menu. Doesn't even attempt to move the laser or whatever, whether I press on the 'case open' thingy. I might have used too much force when opening up the Dreamcast, but there are no apparent cable tears or broken pieces, nothing is apparently broken. But something makes it not work. Any ideas? Help is much appreciated, I was gonna dump some GD-R's, and I'd really like to avoid buying getting even more hardware (another Dreamcast) to clutter up my room Plus it's kinda bugging me, I have no idea why it wouldn't work, I've tried to solve this for the past 30 minutes. Thanks!
Logo displayed briefly = typical for a Dreamcast that thinks the lid is open. Check if you didn't break the lid switch, or if there is dust in the lid switch, it's quite sensible. (blowing some air into the switch solved some issues for me) When you open/close the lid, there should be at least a message box saying the Dreamcast is trying to read the disc...
Have you taken it apart and checked it again? I know I've opened stuff up and forgotten to receonnect hard drives etc. Possibly you forgot to connect the laser/lid switch or something.
It sounds like open lid to me, try to restore it tothe way it was, check every wire you might have moved or touched or any connection, you could just remove the dreamcast case when doing the switch this instead of doing a mod.
They're right, it really seems your DC thinks it's lid is open all the time. If nothing that they said works, try to replace the LID switch by another one (any kind of switch would do the job). Cheers, FG
Or since he was swapping CDs, that means forcibly stopping of the motor and unfortunately the motor driver chip in the DC is not too powerful and it just might have fried because of the short that happens when you stop the drive by your own.... best way to avoid this is to use some 4 or so ohm resistor in series with the motor. I hope you have switch issue, if you don't have it, you need new drive, or new BAxxxx chip.
