Ok so basically, I have a spare dreamcast but it doesn't have a power supply (don't ask what happened to it, I'm not really sure), so I was wondering, since the dreamcast has 12,5 and 3.3V rails. Is it possible to attatch a run of the mill ATX power supply without blowing anything up or are there some current related issues which would make this difficult/impossible
It would work fine. I was looking into replacing the PSU in one of mine with a custom one... something that takes say 12-15v into the console and then a circuit with some switching regulators to get the 12v, 5v and 3.3v This would free up some space within the console for some mods.
Awesome, when I get around to doing it I might post some pictures, assuming i don't break something in the meantime haha
As I said before, the Dreamcast PCB has a relatively wide area at the edge which just contains of a groundind strip, there are no traces underneath. With a little filing (just a few mm) you can cram the board into a 5 1/4 inch slot in a pc case. Then it's quite easy to re-route the video and audio out into, say, a TV card (most have internal connectors). The rest should be clear
