    The DC will never die...

To me, it's one of the easiest consoles for emulation, prob the easiest.

You can also play MP3s & VCDs...

Of course, there would be some demand for a Dreamcast 're-run', but I am afraid Sega doesn't see that potential.

You can start one of those online petition things, but I find that hopeless...

The problem is that the "demand" is only there for systems that are below Sega's cost. People weren't buying DCs at retail price and Sega isn't going to make a bunch of systems just so it can lose money.

I think SEGA finally banged the nail in the release coffin. A shame, but it's understandable.

i think what he was refering to was the pre jan 200? units able to read cds...i think thats it.....

with the popularity of old classic console revivals, radicas genisis on a chip, the flashback....it would be technically and financially feasable to recreate a small dreamcast..about the size of a cd....use a "dc on a chip" esseintial a scaled down chipset...and put a dvd drive in the thing....sell it for 50 bucks, and release collection discs...."say the sonic adventure collection disc"...then..with those...and the media type..sega, could then emulate saturn and geneisis titles on it......it could be a real cash cow....

that would take effort and planning, both of which sega hasn't shown for a long time.

it was bypassed. they used a security hole in the music player software, wich allowed to read cd-r music discs. So, you putted that disc in the dreamcast, and it thought it was a music cd, but before the program launched they booted it. They removed the feature in the last couple of dreamcasts, but it was too late. Interesting thing, Most tittles could fit on a disc without any changes, somes where bigger than others, but you could simply lower the music and sound quality to make them fit. In order to boot, any discs official or not needs a track of a couple of second (i don't remember the exact crono, it think it's somewhere around 20 seconds (it needs to be precisely of the same lenght.). This is to copy the message that starts when you put a GD-rom into your stereo. This is one of the dreamcast easy to by-pass protection.

There might be a new Sega Console one of these days, but that basically means they must stab Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo in the back, you know? And if they fail then, they might not even get a chance to make games, again. It would be ironic if they gathered the funds from all the games they have been making for the next and current gen systems to just wage war against the companies that gave them the funds later.
