I' trying to figure out how to make this schematic and want to make sure im understanding everything correctly. I've seen a layout done for strip-board but it seems very inefficient to me.

This is what I figure it's supposed to be if i were NOT have the LED indicator. D being dreamcast, s being SD card. Thanks for your help

d3 d8 s3 s6 connect to negative poles of both capacitors
    d4 to s7
    d5 to s2
    d6 to s1
    d7 to s5
d10 to positive poles of both capacitors

You missed the connection to SD Card pin 4.

Um, no. The two pins on the DC connector are tied and connected to ground. There are TWO pins tied on the SD card, too - 3 and 6. They go to ground, as do the caps (the right one isn't polarized, there's no negative pin).

As RS said, the other end of the caps are tied to a pin on each connector, too - not just the DC.

Why do you want to take the access light out? It shows you it's working!

See those are things I actually figured. Which is part of my confusion because when I look at the stripboard schematic it varies a bit. d3 and s3 are directly connected, d8 and s6 are connected to the caps, and I don't see any pin going to ground either.

I did miss s4 going to d10 thank you.

I dont want the led as it's going to be internal anyway and don't want to drill more holes than i must.

Row h is ground. It's tied to one end of both capacitors, pin 8 on the serial port and pin 6 on the SD card. They've just chosen not to tie the two ground pins on each connector together, linking the third pins directly instead. Bit odd, but whatever. You might well find they're already tied on the motherboard, as they're grounds.

In effect, other than not connecting all the grounds together, the stripboard layout is exactly the same.

Then there's also this picture which deviates as well with the positioning of the caps. it has lines 4 and 5 connected rather than 3 and 5.

Im assuming whats going to be best to do is: d10 to positve side of caps to s4, then d3,d8,s3,s5 to the negative side of the caps?

    thanks

Yeah, you tie all that to a ground rail.

Huh? 3 and 5? Pin 3 is Vss = ground. Pin 4 connects to the capacitors. That's what they've done in the photo.

Thank you very much. Last Question. Does it matter at which end the grounds are connected to the caps? Like could I just have all 4 wired up and connected to one end?
or must it be d3+d8 to caps to s3+s6

How I have connected right now is d8 to caps to s6+s3+d3

It's just a ground line on the board. It's usual to connect them as per the diagram for ease, but in effect, you just connect them basically where they'll fit.

Alright thanks so much. My boards done and I got it pretty tiny compared to what I've seen. Hopefully it works now.

    Thanks again

I had a tutorial posted on here on how to make one of these on breadboard. Think it's gone now, I'll see if I can dig up the info and repost here for the benefit of others. I've also got an LED hooked up to my drive which lights up blue whenever the GD-Rom is accessed similar to a model one saturn. And another LED next to that which lights up orange whenever the SD is accessed, both shining through the little triangle at the front of the console.

I hacked a slot above the modem for the SD card itself. Like I said I'll see about reposting here... :)
