Yeah believe it or not, with just two games in a year, the DC stock is SOLD OUT!:eek:h:

    Quote from Kotaku:

Note to Sega: Stop making the crap Sonic games and start making Dreamcasts again. We're buying!

But of course, we're talking about the land of the rising sun, where a souped-up GBA and its dog simulation game outsells anything else on the market...

So one store selling out of their tiny pre owned dreamcast stock is news now for Kotaku?

HA! I'm willing to bet that between active board members AssemblerGames has more DC units than a dozen of those preowned game stores. We've got nothing to worry about.

Rightly so, I might add. Nintendo played its cards right and won. I may not like Brain Age or Nintendogs, but hot damn, they sure were examples of genius on hardware that didn't have to push the technical envelope to prove a point.

I don't know guys. Finding a Dreamcast down here hasn't been too easy the last month or so. Plus when I do find one the price is higher than normal. Looks like Kotaku may have a point.

Maybe it's due to lack of shelf space in Tokyo that people like Yakumo won't experience, but I've not seen DC anything on the shelves in.... well, a long fucking time. No games, no units, no nothing.... except for used stores.

man that's very sad. I'd hate to live in Tokyo now. Any major used games place down here has a good DC section as well as Saturn. In fact the Xbox and 360 put together get less shelf space in some shops. New games shops don't have a great deal of Dreamcast but you can still find a nice selection of hardware and software (until last February when all the hardware started to sell out)

I remember the last time I went to Tokyo 2 years ago. It was a very sad sight. Some shops were nothing but PlayStation and PS2. As I said, very depressing not to mention boring as hell.

It might have been a pretty good way of adding 1+1 (touchscreen and tamagotchi style gameplay) but I think Nintendo got way more sales than they really deserved. The 'take care of your dog' concept was already used in a late Japanese Game Gear(!) game and same goes for the 'test your brain' type of game. They hype it up like it the 'next coming' or so, perhaps they need tap on the head that makes them realise it's just a portable with a couple of fancy new ideas (used over and over) and loads of games that were done before on either the SNES,N64 or Gamecube. The same thing happened with the GameBoy and the Game Gear. Who needs colour graphics and Tv when you can have a 'blurry crapovision for instant headache' machine?

It's like the world is obsessed with the 'Game Boy' brand. Maybe the Game Gear wasn't all that great but the Neo Geo pocket and PSP could (and should) have been better sellers than the Gameboy Colour, (seven years after the Game Gear and Lynx and finally they got colour), Advance (which, looking back was really disappointing with a terrible screen which needed replacing by the SP model and underpowered hardware) and DS. (see above).
The less said above the Pocket Advance, the better.

I'm not saying these machines are crap (there's a fair bunch of good games for them) I just think Nintendo were given far more credit ($) than they deserved. On the other hand, if they would've bombed so would Nintendo.

I think the great thing about Nintendogs and Brain Training is they really make good use of the touch screen and that is the reason they are system sellers. The majority of the games on the DS aren't so, which is the main reason I am disappointed with my DS Lite.

That and I'm already on system number 3 (bought it last August).

I actually think if developers figure out what the fuck they are doing with the PSP and the system gets tweaked a bit, it'd do very well. I recently upgraded my emulators on my PSP the other day and was VERY pleased with my PSP, being able to play games like Garou and Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter 60fps with great sound for CPS2 and good sound for NeoGeo. My only major complaints about the PSP would be two things.

First and most important is the controls. The controls need to be MUCH more responsive. The face buttons need to not be so.... loose/wobbly/something is up with them... And the D-Pad needs to be fixed badly too, its very unresponsive when it comes to diagonals esspecially. I actually ordered a kit to fix the control issue myself.

The second less important thing I'd have liked to see is AV out so you could play on your TV. There's actually another but expensive kit you can buy to fix this too. But spending something like 150$ for TV out, no thanks.

The PSP hardware itself isn't bad at all, it's far more powerful than the DS. Which matters to me for my emulators. ;) It's kind of strange how much better Sony could be doing if they fixed a few things.

Back to DreamCast though.. Is it really that surprising that the DreamCast is becoming a collectors item? They didn't make all that many of them. And it had some very nice games many exclusive to it console wise like the original Soul Calibur. The good thing is other than the crappy lid switch, the DreamCast has held up well for me.

    Obviously.

I mean, they are the hooks, and lead up to other games. If I've noticed anything about Japan, it's that once a concept takes off, everyone jumps aboard. Pachinko and horse racing games? Check. However, the aforementioned learning and pet sims are much more universal -- Japan also eats that stuff up. I figure the DS deserves all this credit anyhow. Sure, those ideas MAY have been done on a portable before it, but not in this way.

Of course, there are shit games for the DS (and PSP, but everyone seems to "know" that already). Games that have no business being on there, using the stylus in the first place. Diddy Kong Racing DS comes to mind; I'm sorry, but I just don't do that to start a car. [Rubbing the stylus over a wheel to start a race.]

speaking of the DS, just completed Hotel Dusk: Room 215 on it just 10 minutes ago. Amazing game, but obviously aimed at a younger, dumber audience. The puzzles are nowhere near the difficulty class of your usual monkey island, or Indiana Jones, let alone myst!

I got 35 of them myself, just in case ;-)

Can't beat $1 a piece clearance at the pawn shop.

Funny you should say that assembler, my friend works at a pawn shop and the often keep dreamcast stuff in the back as they don't really know what to do with them since there customer usually gets 64,ps2, or snes.

Honestly pawnshops are a real good place to find deals. Hell I got a copy of donkey country 2 for $3 as opposed to the usual $20 rubbish places like game crazy charge.

The one time I saw a DC in a second-hand shop they wanted £40 for it, no games included. This was last summer.

    I politely declined.

I bought 50, and through fixing and cannibalizing for parts, wound up with 35 that play cdrs. I sold the newer non cdr friendly models (about 10) at a flea market.

I have a boneyard of about 6 units. All models that didn't have working ports and didnt respond to the port resistor repair for some reason.

I can get maybe 30 more if I wanted to,
but they are worth spit and space is tight.

First machine I took back to the store because of a large number of dead pixels and the DS cart slot wouldn't play all games.

On the second machine the upper screen would blank out if tilted more than about 90 degrees. Nintendo replaced that one under warranty.

So far the replacement works well, no dead pixels and the lower screen is nice and white.

This is my worst track record with a console BTW.
