    Hello There

Whereabouts in the world do you live?

If its the UK £500 is too expensive if you're in the USA (which I presume you are as we don't usually use the word Kiosk) I am not too sure about the price.

Although in my experience they seem scarce in comparison with the UK versions so would probably be more pricey.

    Thanks

    Rob

From a collectabilty stand point maybe. As usability maybe not.

You just have to weigh if standing while playing at a KIOS is better then kicking back at the couch with a bigger TV. Sure, a KIOS has got the cool factor, a question of how often you will play it later as the frenzy wears off.

I think $500 is too expensive. The USA store kiosk is pretty plain looking, and the equipment inside is typically not that special. The controllers/cables are all the same as retail, the TV if there is one, is not rare or large or flatscreen/lcd or even made by sega to my knowledge. There aren't any elaborate graphics painted on the side. Basically, the "guts" (controllers, cables, console and back-level small tv) are all easily available for retail purchase for probably around $40-$60. So you are basically paying for the box.

I think I've seen them go for $100-$300, from anecdotes on forums. That seems in line with prices for old 1990s arcade cabinets, which are also glorified huge standing boxes/cases.

Yes, I'm located in the states. The Pal one is significantly nicer, But I've came across only one and it was on here for free. But thats a fortune to ship to the states. If I can find several proofs of it selling for significantly less than 500 in prior cases I can use that to my advantage as well, considering the craigslist seller has been relisting this for two months now it obviously takes particular people like us to want somthing such as that.

Maybe you can arrange to go and look, and then negotiate with him. That may be why he has the price suggested at $500 anyway, so that when negotiating, $300 will seem like he's being extremely generous to you.

The market is not in his favor for selling it for $500:
-it's a niche item with a small amount of people who would be interested in it
-it's a big and heavy item, so that would disinterest people from buying it online
-the electronic parts aren't particularly valuable or unique
-he hasn't sold it in at least 2 months of trying

Ah, I agree with all of the above points. It has the mundane NTSC hardware and the controllers aren't even different unlike the PAL one. He lives in my city and is deployed in malaysia right now. He said If I would like he can have his brother meet up with me to look. Whats the top end price for somthing like this? It's in a storage unit too, Which leads me to believe it's just his collected stuff he wants to get rid of for fast cash due to the space it would take up.

Hard to gauge a top end because you don't see many of these being sold, or asked for. A top end could be based on what you think you could get for selling it to someone in the future.

I'm not interested in buying one, but I couldn't see myself even being interested if one was above $150. Maybe $200-$250 if you're trying to finish off a huge dreamcast collection or if you have a dedicated "sega" room or a bar in your house and this fits in perfectly with the plan. I don't think it would be an obvious ripoff at $300. You probably wouldn't make that much back in a resale unless you find another enthusiast - on the other hand, you probably won't find another one of these locally for at least a couple of years.

I think it would be a clear ripoff at $500.

Most people struggle to give them away due to the rofl transportation costs and hassle - in fact I've known of a few to be scrapped because of this. When they do sell (euro ones at least) they go for about £100. If you're lucky it may include a pre-release Dreamcast though.

I agree, have heard of a couple of people binning kiosks because the postage cost basically outweighed the cost of the item, unfortunately both times I had found out about them they had already been chucked

as stated above mate its a niche item and i think the price quoted is too much, personally I would be looking around $250 maximum and that would be if it was in good condition

Yeah, It's very niche . If my living space downsizes I'd put it into storage. I'm going to go look at it soon, if theirs a pre release dreamcast wouldnt geist force work in it without issue? xD I was also under the impression that the ones with pre release consoles were few in number?

If you picked this up, I'm interested to hear what you paid. One was posted in Phoenix Craigslist for a couple of months last holiday season (pulled around the time you first posted this) for $200. The posting was eventually taken down, so I don't know if it was sold or they just gave up. I found out when I went back to look for it and offer $150, would've been perfect in my workshop...
