Now that I'm giving my Dreamcast more love I'd like my Dreamcast games to look as good as they possibly can.

My TV does not have VGA It has 1 HDMI port, 2 Component, 1 composite and 2 S-Video. Dreamcast is in through S-Video and half the games look like jaggy ass.

I've spotted some VGA- HDMI converters would this be something that might benefit me?

You may also want to look at some of Monoprice's VGA -> HDMI converters/upscalers (that's a link). All three of them seem like they'd do exactly what you need.

It seems that people have had both success and failure with part 4629 when used with a Dreamcast, so some of it might be how well your TV plays with the signal too. The good news is that if you get one and it doesn't work with your TV, Monoprice is awesome about returns.

What is the make and model number of your HD?
See if your HDTV supports 640x480, a lot of HDs do not support this lower VGA resolution.

I tried to get a Dreamcast VGA box setup to work on my Sony Wega HD CRT KV-32HS500 and also a Vizio LCD VW32L HDTV40a with a VGA to HDMI scaler box. No luck, neither worked with Dreamcast's 640x480 resolution.

The VGA to HDMI box I tried: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10114&cs_id=1011404&p_id=4629&seq=1&format=2

Maybe a VGA to component all analog might work?

It's an LG 30FS4D displays anything I throw it but for some reason the Dreamcast (both of them) look like ass in S-Video

I don't know the model number but the TV I shoot Retrocade off of is a Vizio

This might work then - it claims to upscale whatever VGA input to 720p output, which any TV should be able to handle. I don't know how it handles widescreen/fullscreen content, however.

Nice CRT! How does the Dreamcast image look when you set the HDTV to 4:3 mode? A VGA box will definitely help, if your TV supports the 640x480 resolution.

Yeah that's about what I wanted to upscale to anyway. Even though my TV supports up to 1080i I usually set everything to 720.

It varies some games look great (daytona, Jet Grind Radio) but others are a jaggy mess (Outtrigger, Crazy Taxi, Monaco)

The best way is to use the Gefen VGA to DVI scaler. No lag, no filtering, perfect scaling. The scaler of choice for lots of XRGB users.

My TV doesn't have a DVI port so it would be VGA to DVI to HDMI and that doesn't cover the sound which HDMI would

A lot of the cheap boxes use horrible methods of upscaling.

    Try going VGA to Component
First see if you HDTV even supports the lower now uncommon resolution of VGA 640x480. Should be in the owners manual specifications chart some where.

As mentioned earlier, I could not get a Dreamcast VGA to HDMI conversion to work on either my HDCRT or HDLCD. Some HDTVs might work, but I think going VGA to Component may prove more successful since everything stays Analog.
