I'd like to order 2 scanline vga boxes, both with those additional cables.

I can't believe the dedication people have putting into this system, it's so amazing - impressive work. I'm making my next TV decision based entirely on the inputs and how they effect my DC gaming. I've heard that playing on huge flat screens is a bad idea though with the Dreamcast VGA - is it BECAUSE of the lack of scanlines? Or is it even a bad idea to play WITH a scanliner on a monster-sized TV? Or, will the scanlines allow Dreamcast VGA gameplay on a +60 inch screen? I'm a little lost.

 

It's like having a Naomi arcade machine at home. It has a great library of games, so huge fan base. VGA improves the details in the graphics too much, there is a great difference, sharper and clearer than the other methods, even better than the RGB Scart.
VGA unleashes the system's true potential, progressive 480p/31khz resolution. However this has a little disadvantage, when playing 2D games on large screens, you can see too many edgy, pixelated graphics which decreases your gaming appetite. This is because CRTs have scanlines and games were designed for these displays. If you are an enthusiast of 2D fighting games or shoot 'em ups, you will notice it's even worse in the VGA mode because of the higher details. Hanzo eliminates this problem by enabling scanlines in the VGA mode.
You can have more with your DC & Hanzo on your large display(60")... Scanlines is a must for a shmups & 2D fighting fan.

I'm concerned that this is some promise that it's not going to be TOO horrible, just "barely acceptable". I really hope it looks nice, I can't find anyone with a huge screen to give a review. I'm a SHMUP fan and I'm going to be crushed if I buy a TV and it looks bad with my games.

I'm just more confused now. When I hook up my VGA box to my small LED monitor, mine goes 16:9 and looks fine since it's small. Theirs is 4:3 (??) with their VGA box even on their widescreen TVs and the videos are showing smaller screens, not the ones I'm wondering about...

Why is my VGA output widescreen and theirs isn't? And can someone just please clearly answer - will large TVs work well or is it resolution quality that's not acceptable.

its going to be 4:3 unless you tell your tv to stretch it.

and i have one hooked up to a 61" tv and it looks great.

 

Oh okay, sorry. Thank you, forgive the difficulty. I'm making a large purchase decision based purely on this and it's going to be rage-worthy if I buy it for nothing.

 

I have a 60" Pioneer Kuro...
and many friends here are using their Hanzos with 60" screens.

 

It is the best quality picture you are going to get out the dreamcast so if you aren't satisfied with it, you arent going to be satisfied with anything. If im reading correctly, you already have a vga box? You can hook that up to your tv to see what it looks like then.

 

I have one issue and one question about my Kuro VGA box that I'm wondering if you can help me with.

First, it seems that at least one pin isn't making contact properly. When I run the device normally, the colors look like this:

If I apply pressure to certain spots on the AV cable that connects the plug to the main box, then things look correct:

And finally, when I run the device in 15khz mode, the screen usually looks like this:

I'm only really concerned about the color issue and would like to fix that, but I'm not sure how to do that. The 15khz mode is less of a concern, as the Kuro actually does display a proper picture when playing 240p games like Bangai-O, and that's what I bought it for. I'm just wondering if it's supposed to look like that when playing 480i games; it's as if one of the fields is shifted up or down too many lines.
