Anyone ever used this VGA box before? It's from a UK seller for about $28usd. I use S-video on my dreamcast but the cable I have now puts out a grainy picture so I was going to try this box. It has S-video out as well. Also, is there anyone else that uses S-video and can recommend a good cable/Box?
Strange design, looks almost like the original Xbox. I use a Scart cable for my machine. I bought a butt load of them back when Lik Sang was up and running. I bet a VGA box give even beter picture.
Such boxy vga box with composite/s-video/vga is usually a good choice. I also have some official s-video cables and they were working great when I used them, although for the price they fetch on ebay I wouldn't recommend buying one right now.
Speaking of VGA Boxes, I was looking at getting the Kuro VGA box. Is it worth the extra $20ish bucks over the one in the OP? It does look a lot nicer, but it's not like I'd see it very much. Kuro box link for reference. http://www.beharbros.com/#!kuro/c1dcu
I use a retro-bit VGA box for my DC. I modded the VGA box so it uses the DC's RGB and VGA modes instead of TV and VGA modes. That way I can play those games that don't support VGA mode but do support RGB mode without swapping cables and displays. My Dell ST2210b supports 240p and 480i over VGA.
Maybe you also could look at this neat little thing. Ive been looking at it for a while myself, but are unsure weather to get one or not. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2-in...Card-Adapter-with-VGA-Output/32255409797.html
So you're saying that it would probably be a good choice to buy it for the S-video? I didn't realize there were official S-video cables. I've tried 2 third party S-video cables and each gives a grainy picture. The composite cable looks better compared to these two. So I will give this box a try. Will games that are incompatible with VGA also be incompatible with the S-video since it originates from a VGA box?
About the compatibilty: I don't think so, the compatibility flags in the IP.BIN are only for RGB and VGA, AFAIK svideo is only prettier composite from the DC point of view. That kind of vga box often have composite too. But I don't know for sure. I think the vga box is a better choice, it will probably be cheaper than an official svideo cable and you can upgrade to vga in the future, it's really worth it for DC.
I don't have this VGA bow, but i have one for GameCube from the same brand, and it was more than crappy. I personally have the RetroBit one like MonkeyBoyJoey. By the way, how did you mod it please ?
Do the official s video cables produce a grainy picture on an LED TV? Have you tried? The two on ebay right now are from Japan. Are these compatible with NTSC-U consoles?
I don't think Retrobit makes the VGA box anymore, I'm going to need something for when I get my upconverters.
I removed the switch in it and replaced it with a new DPDT On/On switch. The left side of the switch has AV out pin 6 & 7 connected, the right side has pin 7 & an unconnected pin, and the middle pins on the switch are ground. AV Pins 6 & 7 tied to ground puts the system into VGA mode while only pin 7 tied to ground puts it into RGB mode.
Thank you. I'll have a look. I don't remember how the original switch is connected, and check this this afternoon. See ya !
Well I offered $10 less for the official S-video cable and the seller accepted so now I have an official S-video cable on the way!
I don't know of any actual VGA boxes for GameCube; what I'm guessing you have transcodes composite or RF video to VGA, which is what I'm thinking might be why you say it's "more than crappy".
I wonder if itr was not this one : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gamecube-SNES-N64-VGA-Box-Connect-to-Computer-Monitor-/182058916386 And yes, you must be right 'bout signal coding.
That's exactly the sort of item I'm describing. Total rubbish; it's absurd that that seller is charging that much for it. "4x the resolution", give me a fucking break.
