I was looking to buy a VGA box for my dreamcast and in my searching I saw the cable only vga solution.
This would be fine for me, I realize not all games are supported.

My question is, I can’t seem to find pin outs or schematic for JUST the VGA to DC cable. I was hoping I could make one using my DC composite cable and rewiring it.

    Any help is appreciated.

You may find it hard to simply adapt a cable, as all the pins on the Dreamcast end would have to be populated for you to modify it; composite cables will likely only have 4 pins of the 16 populated for video, left audio, right audio and ground. You might have better luck with a third party RGB lead.

Best thing to do would be to do an internal mod if you wish to carry it out yourself or just buy a pre-made VGA cable.

Thanks, I think you are right.
I am prolly going to rip apart my composite cable just for grins and see if I can jerry rig something. might be fun.

the real better option is to go to the assembler market and look for the hanzo that is the greatest vga box I ever use. It even work with those games that not work with the common vga box.

Internalizing a VGA connection isn't too difficult but damn it takes a lot of work. The DC doesn't have that much internal space available and if you want to have discrete connectors for audio you're pushing it - at least in my experience.

And unfortunately rewiring a composite cable just isn't worth it. As noted above you have to get lucky that all pins are populated and even then you'd have to rip apart the connector and hope you don't break it in the process. You can use this schematic: http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/dreamcast/images/dricas.gif to build the VGA box itself but you're better off either internalizing it yourself (if you have the experience, trust me it's a PITA) or sending it off. I'm doing two right now and if they weren't being done for a very good reason I'd probably not have even bothered starting them. Next round might be a really pretty penny.

would be really cool to have a plug that would be a DC out to a vga out port With a 3.5" plug for the sound or two rca jacks.

I am kind of thinking I want to homebrew the solution so crazy ideas are ok. :)

I have some circuits(stripboard) left from the first Kuro project, they are extremely small, ideal for the internal mod. $7 including shipping.
However I absolutely recommend the Hanzo. I can add an S-video cable to the Hanzo too.

If space is an issue you could just install the VGA connector and use the composite cable for sound. If mini-jack is required you can find an RCA to mini-jack adapter for next to nothing on ebay.
