Totally sure that if it would be released it would help, even by a little margin, to increase de DC sales on holiday of 2000.
I think somebody on here had a dummy mock up or something a few years ago. Interesting video though thanks for sharing.
The video it s not mine, I tried to contact the owner but I had no reply. The mp3 vmu in the video is working, you can clearly see the software running an mp3
Never seen that video! I saw they showed a mock up at an E3 show late in the Dreamcasts life (where they also showed the Dreamcast dvd player). pic https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&r...AaKtLvYgdQYtcnBVGLy7DTCw&ust=1446124710271394
Had this been released Sega may have gotten quite the market advantage over apple on the MP3 market. iPods weren't around until 2003ish
I've watched that video a couple more times and something else I find odd is that the vmu mp3 player plugs into the Dreamcast via a controller type lead! (not through the controller as you'd think like a normal vmu)! (So realistically it's not a vmu at all) Also you can see the 'beat time' adaptor thing (the big round disc thing plugged into the Dreamcast pad at 10 seconds into the video!! I honestly don't think this is fake - I'm going to try to get in touch with the uploader.
I honestly think this is a real sega approved concept promo made with either special fx or cgi. Or both. If you look closely at the display and compare it to a real display of that type and how it interacts with real world light you'll see it's compurer generated graphics and not actual footage of a working prototype.
I also thought it was strange that it plugged in with it's own controller cord. Maybe a temporary design choice? Doesn't make much sense.. Also, I can't 100% say for sure the screen is CGI, as the quality just isn't good enough to properly tell. Instincts say that it's probably simulated, since they normally do for these things. I see how the coloring is kind of off, but I know I have two VMUs with screens that have obviously different displays. They were obviously produced at different times, so perhaps it could be another display tech, but again, they usually simulated displays on these sorts of videos. The other thing I thought was weird was the lack of the sleep and mode buttons, you'd think with more functions that they wouldn't nix any of the buttons.
I've already said what I think it is so I'm not going to repeat myself again. If y'all want to keep dreaming - be my guest
Oh weird.. In the video they are there, but the prototype in the pictures spinksy posted don't have the buttons..strange, more than one prototype I guess.
There were other MP3 players on the market before the Dreamcast. I had a fantastic little Creative Labs one. Well cooler than a VMU. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the white dish on the DC controller. Do you guys know what that was? I do of course .
