I've always wanted a Dremel tool kit for modifications etc, but thought they were a tad expensive for my scant needs - however I was in B&Q today buying some electrical tape and noticed an excellent deal. A 45piece Dremel kit reduced from £80 to £50. I think in the very near future I shall become a Dremel owner as it is certainly worth it. It doesn't appear to be listed on the website however!
You can get sets with 50+ heads for around $50 here. You should look into importing one, if you have contacts over here in the USA.
As always with certain electrical items, we get shafted in the UK! However, this is actually a bigger set than I initially thought. I bought one last night as it's a 75pc set called the '75th Anniversary edition'.
This is true, but for occassional use they are fine. If you intend to do a lot of work with one, get the contractor/professional version.
Thanks for posting the advice. Having wanted a Dremel since I was a teenager and never really feeling that I could justify the cost (considering i'll probably use it only now & again), but this did seem a good purchase! I can envisage light use for plastics mainly and perhaps If I add an additional board to an existing piece of equipment or something. .25 steel is about as much as I'd be cutting as the metal shielding on most consoles is pretty thin. However, how thick is the metal framing inside PCs for example? I'll go easy!
The consumer one would be more than sufficient. Just buy goggles if you don't own any - better a pussy than blinding yourself.
The worse ones are when you use the little circular cutting pieces - these will cut through metal bolts, but are rather brittle & occasionally shatter, sending jagged pie-chart-segment shaped bits spinning off in random directions. Went off & found my eye protectors after that happened to me the first time...
