    Hi,

can someone tell me if its possible to replace an faulty drive from a DEH-H1000AS-E Prototype PS3 Debug Kit with retail drive?
Im not sure what drive the Proto unit use. Special one or like first retail?
I cant have a look after the drive, its not in my hands at the mom ;-)
    Anyone can help?

    Thanks

If the board is good, then just replace the laser. The unit is tied to the system I believe.

You can easily remarry the drive from a retail if its compatible with the CECHA motherboards.

I'm with Assembler on this one. It's easier to swap out the board if it's just a laser issue. Not that the remarry tools don't work.

I've seen early dev units with slightly earlier revision (part number 1-871-575-11) to the controller board than retail (1-871-575-14) but I have successfully swapped the laser unit with a retail and it worked like a charm.

The Unit boots up well, but take no disks.
Ok, can i use 400AAA drives or what should i use ? Maybe a link where i can buy cheap?
I remember last time i open up a ps3 drive, it was an nightmare... Best solution for me is schwitching the complete drive, when its possible of corse. Otherwise i will switch the Laser unit. Its worth to try it, i think.

In my case I swapped the entire drive with a retail unit so the laser was actually a KES-400A. As far as switching just the laser versus the whole drive it really comes down to price. Average price for just the laser is about $47 US. Average price for a complete drive is around $95 US. Occasionally though you can get lucky and find someone selling a complete drive for less than the laser.

Yes the drive is a little complex the first time you dismantle it. One piece of advice though I can say after pulling these drives apart (and messing it up) is don't take off any more parts than is necessary. I would suggest when you get down the black plastic housing that holds the laser assembly and slot loading mechanism that you only unscrew the 5 screws holding the two plastic halves together. Once you remove the screws and remove the plastic tape holding the sensor wire it should separate with little effort. Just watch out for two grey plastic pieces that can fly off if you pull it apart to quickly. Once you are at this point it easy to remove and replace the laser. Putting it back together isn't difficult since there isn't anything that has to be aligned.

    I hope this helps.

I switch the complete drive and use the old and a new Drive pcb. Allways the same error, the drive take no discs. When i put in a disc, the blue LED lights up but the disc do not slide in. Any idea what is broken?
    Cant be the drive... :crying:

You should have done the full troubleshoot and used the old
drive on the donor ps3. See if it works. Only way to eliminate the
    drive as the problem.

The replacement drive is from a working retail unit, same model. And yes both drive pcbs on each drive has the same troubleshot.
So im really sure its not the drive.

    I maybe found the problem.
The Q6010 is broken. Giving the BD drive 12V/5V. At the mom only 8V/5V.
    Waiting for replacement part.
