So today, Evolution release the "patch" to add weather effects to Driveclub. The game that already looked great, just became insane! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljqj1AqLYDE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGcsT3kTCSs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxztchfNNfs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cljY5QSF_4 Unfortunately the damage is done, even if the game has any boost in sales, the whole online fiasco and the delay of the Plus version really hurt any chance of success. I wonder if they should have waited to release the game with the weather effects on the first place. Who knows, with the extra time maybe they could have discovered the online issues before launch? I know the game was already 1 year behind schedule, but honesly waiting two more months wouldn't hurt holiday sales. I bet the reviews would have been a lot better if the game was released with the weather effects on day one. Even if the online problems still happened, the impressive visuals would kept people more interested on it. What do you think? I think developers and publisher need to think about before releasing an unfinished product and end up killing any chance of profit.
Too bad the gameplay is nowhere near as good as Forza Horizon 2. Especially the AI is just pure garbage.
Looks amazing, am I going to resist pressing the buy button ;( Dumb question what do you use to make this gifs?
Just going to say weather effects in PGR4 looked just as good as this. Of course not as detailed but the effects were close I reckon. I noticed the water effect on cars in FH2 don't move whatsoever, so it's mainly just a texture :\
When I pick up new hardware at the end of the month I will give this a shot. I was excited for DriveClub but disappointed once I heard all the flack. Hopefully all the bugs have been ironed out/will be soon. Those weather effects are pretty solid. I especially like the snow one.
From what i heard from Racing games enthusiasts the problem is gameplay, nothing else, so i guess fancy weather effects won't make the game play better, just "look" better...
I can't criticize other people's opinions, but the game has been constantly updated since release, with lots of adjustments and community requests. What i read is mostly praise for the changes and that they're having fun with it. From what i've been reading, the game will probably have a small boost in sales, but won't be able to recover from the online fiasco. My main issue with it, like posted on the OP, was that they could have used the extra 2 months to work on it. Maybe it would still have online issues? Maybe not? Even if the weather effects "just" make the game look good, i think it could have been better reviewed by the press and consumers if it was already available at launch. This was the purpose i created this topic. The extra 2 months would also stop people from comparing it to Forza Horizon 2 (a better game overall, but with totally different style).
Looks like someone from the gaming press noticed http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/d...b-revisited-is-dynamic-weather-a-game-changer
When I tried the game at the first public unveiling of both next gen consoles, it was shockingly bad. Unplayable. I wasn't surprised they had a lot of work to do, but how long it took to come out did surprise me... and that they STILL hadn't got it right. I have been a passenger in a LOT of cars, often in the rain. I've never seen rain behave like it does in that second clip. Sure, the game looks good, but it has to be playable. Delays don't do them any favours unless it proves the game is a lot better.
Forza Horizon 2 just got the "Weather update" with Storm Island. An all new playing area. The rain effects are no where near as dramatic as those in Drive Club but man, the wind sure kicks ass as do the tracks. Forza is now an off road rally game too
They keep making the gaming better and better. Forza Horizon 2 is really the best "next gen" game so far.
