I tried so hard to find a landmark I recognized and figure out what city you're in... Did you shoot that today? It was really cloudy. I was out camping this morning at Lake Afton and had to take my tent down in crazy wind and a light rain that was a bit of a surprise to me.
I don't mean to be rude but can you actually drive? No one who can drive will EVER look at the gear stick except when they are a new driver. If you dont know where the gears are then you shouldn't be driving. Also, I drive a manual and use many other gadgets within the car yet never have a problem. As for racers, well those people are idiots in the first place. I has nothing to do with the car being manual. Not that I'm saying your dad is an idiot Yakumo Nice bumber cam! I really need to do a bumper cam but I dont want to use my HD video camer so it will have to be SD video from the panasonic lumix. The down side with that is the audio
Look what happened to my bumper two days ago. An old guy was doing his "job" as a car park attendant by guiding me out of a tight spot while reversing. Now normally I don't bother to listen what these guys say. I have mirrors and that's all I need. Anyway, I was an idiot and did what he said. Next thing I hear is the rip of fiberglass. F**k! I thought. Got out of the car to take a look at the back. The prick had guided me right in to a 1 meter tall concrete block that cracked my rear bumper and bent my number plate. I was fuming but what could I do? He was just a silly old fart. Anyway, got some cash out of him or his boss I should say and headed over to Yahoo Auctions and picked up a near mint rear bumper for 50 pounds. I'll have to fit it my self mind you. Yakumo
Good thing it didn't hit the hatch! I remember my father and I were driving our Jeep (grand cherokee) in the snow when I was younger (I had the flu and he was cheering me up). We were having fun, him driving slowly but drifting all over the place. Then he hit some ice and we went directly into a tree, right in the center of the front of the Jeep. At probably around 10mph. The bumper (just to remind you once again, this is a JEEP) didn't keep the tree from bending the hood. Or cracking the radiator. Freakin bumpers!
I think the old bumbers may have looked stronger but actually less effective. When I hit the concrete block I didn't feel a jolt as such, just the sound of the fiberglass or what ever they are made from cracking. Crumple zones you see. The outlook is worse cosmentically but probably alround better for the car and the people inside. Sill pissed that I have to buy a new bumper. I'm one of those guys who loves to take care of his wheels. People never beleive me when I tell them my car is 4 years old. The body works is still as shinny as it was when it came out of the factory. Not like my wife's car mind you. Thats a fucking shit box. She hasn't washed it in over a year. Yakumo
I took an all new bumper cam video today. It's came out pretty nice too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax5VcxwbHLI From the YouTube description. Bumper cam video for real close to the floor action. For making this video I had the camera placed inside the Impreza's front air intake just under the number plate. This video starts off from a Seven 11 car park in Kyushu then quickly moves on to the motorway where a speed of 160KM/H (100MPH) is reached as I exit the tunnel. Following the tunnel it's across the Kamon bridge in to Honshu where I take a steep hill road with blind corners to my home. All audio is a mix of outside and in car sound. The outside audio for the most part was wind. In car audio captured using an iPhone 3Gs. Is there anything you can't do with a phone these days. Video was taken with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01 Digital Camera.
What was with the horn blipping near the end? How much do you pay in road tolls every time you take that trip?
Pretty neat video. Good call on mixing the inside/outside audio. I may try the same with my EEE and a remote mic. I do need to come up with a better camera mount than packing tape I'm guessing it was to warn any drivers around the blind corner.
That was my first guess, however I'd also assume the neighborhood would somehow put a stop to that. NO HONKING
Yeah, the beep was me lightly pressing the horn to let others know that I was coming. Its actually kind of expected for a driver to beep the horn. Marshallh, don't knock the tape . That's what I used yesterday to hold the camera in place. I use the clear type to avoid any sticky crap being left on the camera or car. Works a treet plus because the camera is in the air take, you don't look like an idiot driving around with a camera stuck to the front of your car  Yakumo
Ah. Here, you NEVER honk. And if you do hear one, you freak out and wonder what is going on that deserves such a noise.
You'd be shocked it you went to Korea. They do nothing but constantly Honk. Japan is the same as the UK. You only honk to give warning or in my case when some idiot drives like an arse around me which is almost every day in this country.
New video up on a road that the locals call the Rollercoaster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZjEEmqiihY Yakumo
I read somewhere (reddit.com) that only 15% of Americans even know how to drive a manual transmission. And only about half of that 15% actually do regularly. Almost Every vehicle i have ever owned has been a manual. With exception of my current car that i got for free, you cant get choosy with free.
I'd be willing to bet it's less than that around here. Lucky for me, my girlfriend and I both do (daily), so if we go out it doesn't matter who drives as long as only one of us drinks. It sucks when company is involved and you have to get past that little limitation. One of my bands wanted to travel to Colorado to visit and play a show, and my car is the only hatchback (so therefore the only one that MIGHT fit all our equipment) - but neither of the other guys can drive a manual, so if we took my car, I'd be the one driving the ENTIRE way. Not gonna happen!
Most people in the UK drive manual so I guess the rest of Europe is the same. Japanese mostly drive like shit and use automatic cars. As I always say, if you can't drive a manual then you can't drive a car. Driving an automatic is nothing more than driving a go-cart or something like that.
I agree with this. On the topic of manual cars...does anyone else think that Porsche's (or more specifically the Williams F1 team's technology) hybrid car solution is looking pretty desirable? Williams F1 developed a pretty ingenious hybrid drivetrain which is still uses a manual gearbox and clutch system...what they've done is convert the flywheel to a hybrid electric generator. That way, you get the benefits of a manual transmission along with all the pluses of a hybrid drivetrain. Porsche is currently utilizing this in their GT1 race car and their commercials state "all future Porsches will utilize this technology. Pretty promising stuff. (A) this will ensure that proper manual cars continue to be offered to the general public and (B) you're getting a hybrid powerplant without the negatives and stupid styling as seen in today's current offerings like the Prius and Nissan Leaf.
