I'm interested in replicating the DS-16 functionality to create a changer of sorts. I haven't seen one of these since I was in highschool at a local ToysRUs... I'm having issues finding information about utilizing the various reset lines in the cartridge pinout- Does any exist?
I have a DS-16 and the paperwork which came with that kiosk. It's less than interesting when it comes to techincals however. At some point I will scan it for historical purposes but I'm afraid that it won't be of much use in terms of a pinout. There is a port on the back of the ds-16 and the cartridge itself which is similar to an IDE connection I would assume is a 1 to 1 pinout of the ports, however I have noticed having issues starting up games like NBA Jam T.E. which leads me to believe it must be doing something additional. I know my copy of NBA Jam T.E. does not have a pins for every cart connection, not sure if that factors into the equation though.
hm- now, does it also connect to the expansion port on the MD or is it just cartridge-based? I swear I've seen a pic somewhere that makes it look like it connects to the MD, but that might just be to leech power? I think best way to deal with this might be to simply use bus switching?
it does connect to the expansion port, I assume it's just for power but like I said, I never traced it, so I cannot say for certain
DS-16 connects to both the expansion port and cartridge slot. I don't know if it's compatible with 32X or Master System stuff. Or if there's a feasible way to use it along with Sega CD.
oh well- likelihood of seeing one in person or good photos of the board sound slim.. probably better off just to figure out how the reset pins on the md cartridge slot work, an do it from scratch
