The Wikipedia article on the DS seems to imply that the actual game data on DS game cards is written on flash memory. I've found no other information suggesting this. This sounds highly dubious - surely they're just on normal ROM chips like any other cart/card?
It does say that, but I'd be surprised if it were true. Sounds like bad information. Long time no post, by the way!
nha. that would be to costly.. I'm certain it's mask roms. but I think the memory for saves is either eeprom or flash rom
They are mask roms. I think the assumption of this came from when nintendo bought stock in a company that made reprogramable chips. Saves are either eeprom or flash. Nintendo droped suport of sram (gba does eeprom, flash & sram). Most games go eeprom since they are the cheapest. Plus not to mention it is now a requirement that all games have save ram.
Thanks for the info guys - I thought it sounded like nonsense, so I'll remove all trace of it on the WP when I get the chance (i.e. when I'm bored at work ).
