It works fine on a 3DS. The bluetooth transmitter is included with the game card. ;)

Supposedly the keyboard can be used on any device that supports a BT keyboard.

Does it work the other way around, too? As in, can you use a standard bluetooth keyboard with the game?

Yeah, it is inside the game card.
The keyboard this game comes with can be used with other devices as well (including Android, iPhone, Windows PC, etc.):

    barc0de,
The keyboard comes with the game and is the only way of getting one. Have fun trying to get one now as it seems stock was limited so anybody still with one probably want's a pretty penny for it.

Is there a Japan local person who has seen these in the stores? It seems crazy to do a limited run of a pokemon game. I would be interested in picking one up but not at $150 which is the current Ebay price.

If you don't count the "game" it comes with, I can't think of a single use for a keyboard on DS.

As Denryu said, the Keyboard connects to the Gamecard because the DS has no bluetooth.
So you can't use it with other software on the system.

probably not, which is why I was being sarcastic.. I wish nintendo would keep a continuity in their support for peripherals across the board.

I concur. It's funny, if you look at their handheld systems, almost every single new system - even ones that were simply revisions of the same system - has a completely different power adapter. The DSi has a different connector than the DS Lite, etc. On the other hand, the SNES, N64, and Gamecube all use the same video connector (albeit with different features). Go figure.

I believe those different power adapters all had different voltages though.
However DSi and 3DS use the same adapter. :) Here's hope they'll stick to that one for some time.
