this is the most successful redesign ever, but still im so amazed how fast the ds is selling, here in the us though it goes at a steady pace, but its not hard to find one.

Why such a big deal over a redesign? Won't happen outside Japan, i don't think. I've yet to see someone play a DS in the UK.

To be honest, it's rare to see someone playing any handheld here. Especially anyone older than midteens.

    DS in public

Up here I see DS's in public all time. At school I see at least 2 kids a day playing them in the halls at school and often someone on the bus has one. I held off on buying a DS cause if this damn redesign so I'm waiting for them to release it here before I shell out for one.

It will be interesting to see how badly the DS is whipping the PSP after this.

It was already proclaimed the fastest selling console ever wasn't it? Man, who would've thought back when the DS was announced that it would be this big. I know I didn't (hell, I'll be honest, I initially thought it'd be Virtual Boy pt. 2).

Ah well, back to Super Princess Peach. [IMG]

I so expected the DS to be whipped by the PSP. In fact, I imagined Nintendo's four month head start against Sony's launch would be the only time to sell any real number before being whooped. Boy was I completely wrong. Mind you, I'm one of the stauncher Ninty supporters out there (having enjoyed my load-free days during the 32-/64-bit times). The DS Lite design is just pure sex and that's all.

Looks like we won't see a "GBA2" for while then. Insert standard "doubt Nintendo's ability to hold back on releasing new portable hardware" joke here.

Yeah, I think we all thought the PSP would sell a lot better than it has. I didn't think it would take over, but thought it would get a decent market share. Just seems like there's not much worth playing on the PSP, which is sad becasue it's a nice little machine.

I visited 4 shops today including Toy's R Us and not one had any sign of ever having the DS Lite. It's as if it doesn't even exist. Will anyone ever be able to stop Nintendo in the hand held world? Probably not unless Nintendo fuck up big time which I can't see. To be honest though I'm very surprised to see how fast this new model sold. Why did it sell so well? Who knows but I doubt the west will take to it as much as the east.

While looking at the news article the other day on TV I noticed that there were actually old business men waiting in line. I don't think they were all there to buy their kids DS Lites. They probably were after one for themselves with one of those brain puzzler games.

Yeah - one of my Japanese mate's dad (53-ish) has a DS for all those trendy worthy games. He also has a GC for playing harvest moon. One of the big selling point for older gamers is the Lite's brighter screen. Apparently a lot of old people complained that they could not see the screen too well - so the Lighter Lite is the answer for those with poorer eyesight.

Cool stuff - I like to see a real success in the gaming world.

heh, I love how the 360 sells out in the west and its a cockup, and the DS sells out in the east and its a great success. Who knows if nintendo "did a sony" and held back units to increase demand?
