Has this seen a release in the USA yet? Every Gamestop/Ebgames I have visited and asked about has been totally clueless and none have seemed to have heard about it. Yet in the UK it is readily available (http://www.play.com/Games/DS/RNR/3-/1102826/Official_Nintendo_DS_Lite_Internet_Browser/Product.html). So what gives?
I saw it for like 40 euros in store here in Holland. No way in hell im paying that for a webbrowser, and a crap one at that too.
Most probably, the DS web browser is a result of the overall contract of nintendo with Opera to create a browser for their consoles. I m sure their main intension was the Wii. It's really bad for browsing the DS, it is.
The DS hardware is what handles the encryption. Unless Nintendo upgrades the wireless driver on the DS to support WPA, no DS software will be able to do better than WEP.
For the past few years, I've used several mobile devices for online access on the fly and when jumping around places. Personaly, I think the browser is pretty much the best portable browser I've used, if you don't include the different laptops I've used through the years. Sure, it might have a bit of a price tag in overall, but so does any other portable device with the same capabilities and userfriendlyness have. The virtual keyboard and character recognition is really good on the DS browser, so I find writing on it a true pleasure, compared to both the virtual keyboard and letter recognition I had on my old Fujitsu PDA, and let's not even talk about the dreadfull writing on a cellphone (be it normal input or dictionary, I hate it) Sure, there's a certain lack of media support on it, but that's quite common for portables, and those that do support those handles them like crap anyway. The dual screen display, when using the zoomed/full display is really neat. And when doing regular browsing, it works like a charm and the settings/options for it are good enough and easy to navigate. As a final note; Speed is pretty much the same as any portable device/browser that I've used. That is probably the result of the fact that Opera is a European/Norwegian company.
