I came across the DSerial Edge and thought it might be useful to anyone doing DS homebrew with devkitARM.
Yeah I read about this some days ago, sounds pretty nice. Especially if you can get midi working through it, as I missed out on his midi interface that he had for sale :V
This thing looks like a truly amazing bit of kit for DS developement. Has anyone actually used it? Does it support source-level debug (like C for example). As I understand it, USB uses twisted pair for data with a voltage and earth line (so 4 in total). Now, ECHI allows 480mbit/second transfer but can fall back to 1.5mBIT/second. Would I be right in thinking that this hardware (with appropriate hub pc side) would manage 480mbit/second (in theory of course). One could expect about 53mbit/second under real conditions. I am, of course, thinking of making this my DS developement tool so anyone with real-life experience... please chip in now!!! Oh, does this thing support the ARM tool chain (seems popular with the home-brew crowd). Thanks in advance, Sean
After finding a really good DS homebrew tutorial, I've decided to have a crack at developing for it. I've ordered a DSerial Edge, but it probably won't be here until a couple of days before Xmas. I just need a DS now, when I can find one that doesn't cost £300 and come packaged with 23 crap games I really don't want. Until then, I'll get devkitARM installed on the Mac and start coding so I have something to use when it arrives. It is designed to work with devkitARM, but the debugging software hasn't been released yet. I'll take some pics and do a review of the device when it arrives (or when I sober up) and then review again when the debugging software is released.
No debug software, ay... that's bad, especially since they don't give a timescale for the debug stuff to be available. Sounds like vapourware, to w certain extent.
I'm tired of people going crazy over this useless stuff, it's just a bad SD adapter with a MCU to make your own test equipment/what have you. Don't you think it'd be cooler to just debug with standard game card emulation? I mean, who says: "Holy shit, I'm so turning my DS into a Xmas light controller!"?
That could be awesome though, syncing your lights blinking to some christmas music. I was planning on getting the DSerial Edge about a month ago, but I've already dished out $50 for my Cyclo, and since I decided to stop DS devving, I only need the Cyclo for games.
Errr, not too sure about that, but in the end I want to make my living from it so I need a good devki. I contacted 3 stores selling the card and when I asked about the debug software, they stopped emailing back. Can someone tell me who makes the thing so I can contact the makers directly? Thanks, Sean
Well, I found out the creators of the DSerial2 are Natrium. Here is their page; http://www.natrium42.com/
