    Hi,

I've been trying to fix a broken DSI. On power up, led goes blue, bottom screen blinks and... that's it.
I checked the fuse and both screen connections when I've found this:

Looks like bad capacitor(?) is the reason. Now, is anyone able to identify it?

yep, that's an inductor am affraid that this kind of failures are on the power supply part or maybe the inverter, dunno if the dsi has an inverter, ds lite does, very hard to fix.

Its not hard to fix. also that looks like water damage? there is nothing in an inductor like there is in a cap to leak.

I have not repaired any DSi's but I have repaired PLENTY of DS Lites. Usually when one of the screen flashes, it means the one that didnt flash is broken. Did you try a known working top screen as well? also clean up that part

    Thanks!

I'll try to clean inductor first and get upper screen replacement although I have some strange feeling that it's not broken. That DSI is in good condition, doesn't look like it was water damaged nor dropped etc.

Yup, bottom screen flash means it's not seeing the top screen - either the screen, ribbon cable or connector is dodgy.

Actually, the behavior in question is caused by the Nintendo DS firmware. It's programmed to shut down the system if the backlight drivers detects that no current is being drawn from either of the screens.

I replaced top screen, once again checked all the connectors but it still refuses to power on. Led goes blue, bottom screen blinks and it turns off. Any ideas what else I could check?

    Broken traces...

It's booting but when it notices it can't talk to the top screen it gives up and shutdowns.

So, working as intended ...
