Hi, i have some problems to setup the H2510 with the H2500. The issue is to use the drive with resetps (h25bios). On the software side everything working well, but the drive is like dead. When the drive is connected to the H2500, h25bios do not have function. I recheck the ribbon cable. I switch the ribbon side many times and try different versions of resetps. The big problem is i have no chance to check an hardware conflict. Is there any way to show up ressources of the H2510 on H2500??? I use different pci slots for the h2500. The cd unit is working. I build it up in a retail psx and it works great. Dont know what i can test at this point... Any suggestion what i can test? :shrug:
Well an short update. I disassemble the complete drive an check first the service points on pcb. Voltage and contact are fine. I rebuild the black cd unit into an retail psx, works fine. When the power plug is installed, you can see the laser reading. Than i think about the 50pin ribbon cable. Because i have no tech docu, i dont know what exactly transfered over the ribbon cable from dtl-h2500... So i check the transition of the cable. And i found that the first red line has no conection! All other transitions are ok. The cable has no damage. But of corse maybe i found the problem now. I will disassamble the cable and switch the first pin. Hope this helps...OH:
I think I remember some conversation I had with lingjr some time ago, in which he stated that he had to rework one of his cables in the past as well. Seems they are not that sturdy as the rest of the PS1 dev system, which is really a shame :banghead:. Is this a simple one-to-one cable, or does it need certain lines being crossed (as in those old 3-1/2" floppy cables)? If it is one-to-one, it might be easier to find a replacement cable than trying to repair this one. I'm not quite sure, but it would surprise me if those insulation displacement terminations ("Schneidklemmen") were meant to be reused. Good luck.
I think the cable is no crossover. Each line is at both sides the same. I reconnect one side and test transition. But when i connect it to the board and drive, same problem... :shrug: I test nearly everything, and have no more idea :gravedigging: Not really sure an replacement helps. I test each line with an "transition tester". @Silverbull Can you have an look how the cable is connected to your board? Red line left or right?
I got a different (seemingly non-official) cable than you did, so I doubt I can help here. Isn't Pin 1 marked on both the card and the optical drive? Anyway, here are some pictures of my system: Sorry for the bad angle; it is a little bit crowded in here because of too many TOOLs...
Hm yes something wrong with the cable... I bought it from lingjr, the kit was from Hi_ricky he telled me. First i think he mean the pins on drive and board are fragile, but now i know its the cable :gravedigging:. I think about soldering the pins. Creazy ribbon cable :flamethrower: Nice cable silverbull! Never unplug it ^^ I know its near impossible get an replacement cable ...
I don't think I could. Any chance you could help Jackhead obtain one? To be honest, I was quite worried when being told by lingjr that he had to rework his cable. Was quite a relief when the unit started working without any drive issues :nod:. And another one once the emulator was running as well; you can see in the photos how crowded it is in the enclosure, so I can assure you I am not going to disconnect anything unless its absolutely necessary (can never know with this 10 year old drives). Its a standard ribbon cable with what seems to be some kind of standard plugs as well. I bet you could find these at Farnell or Mercateo (or maybe even Reichelt) if you know the spacing.
I think my buddy raylyd is more a SEGA guy ;-) I have an look on reichelt. But not really sure its the right plug. The BIG question is, why are thies plugs have problems with conection? I really want to know whats transport over the ribbon cable. An technical documentation will helps alot. I mean is it only transfer data from drive or control something on line x. Will solder the 100 pins in the next days to be sure its an transport problem.

But there is no retailer :crying:. I search on Reichelt, Farnell and Mercateo. Anyone know where i can find thies plug? Maybe some shops in Akihabara have one
The company in Germany order me two of the Honda plugs from Japan. I get it tomorrow and will post pictures on weekend (40€ for two plugs include shipping OH. :dance:
You paid €40 for TWO IDC plugs? You have actually got to be kidding me. 8 times more than I'd have ever paid.
the 50pin you need for this are cost alot, tell me one cheaper correct option... You do not find it cheaper! I search long time and deep for it. Really deep research around the world. Ling Jr helps me searching in china and Japan. I know the other IDC plugs are much cheaper but i need an 50way pitch 1,27mm plug.
SCSI cable off ebay, £5, get it, strip the connector from the IDC plugs and insert into new cable, job done, €34 cheaper.
:fresh: Belive me or not, its not an standard idc plug you think. Today i got the two Honda plugs and my CD-Rom is back in life :dance:. An dream come true .pub: edit: Here two pics shows the Honda Plug. Well not cheap, but awesome quality and function :thumbsup:
