So a while ago I bought a PS2 TEST console. When it arrived it had black screen. (I can't send it back because I bought it off eBay from the UK and I live in New Zealand) The symptoms are, it turns on, the blue and green lights come on but there's no sound or video. I've taken it to an electrician and he's told me that it's the pcb something (the phone was crackly), he's tried to source parts for it but can't get his hands on any being that it's a TEST console. Has anyone ever had any success fixing the same symptom on a TEST console before using a retail console? (I've had it apart myself and they're very different) Or is it a very expensive paper weight (like my TOOL)? I'll be able to post more details about what's actually wrong with it when I get it back. It may have to wait till after Xmas though.
Reflowing works with micro solder only if there is enough flux left of course. So anything with a PCB and micro controllers pretty much
Black screen on retail units is usually caused by BAD RAM. Another problem could be the blown laser pickup coils but since the blue light comes on, it means the DVD drive did boot properly and is online/ready. So it must be a problem keeping the EE chip from starting (RAM is the most common problem that causes this). UNLESS the unit has been tampered with and is damaged because of said tampering.
