I believe it's a test system, but based on slightly newer hardware. I think (though I'm sure someone else can confirm) that it lacks the firewire port.

DTL-T10000 / DTL-T150000 are the huge bad boys. Often known as a "PS2 TOOL". They cost about $19,000 USD and are only available to developer companies. These are the things that you design and develop PS2 games on. They look like huge PS2's (even come with big blue vertical stands) except they weigh 13Kg's!!
DTL-T15000 is the latest version. It is pretty much the same as a DTL-T10000 except it features a performance analyser and a DVD writer. (Does anyone know if this is a regular DVD writer or whether it can burn a "master" disc which is recognised by a debug TEST PS2..???
I'm sure there are some other differences but I think these are the main ones.

As for the DTL-H series you mention.........these are all debugging stations (the covers have TEST printed on them NOT PS2, like a retail one).
The DTL-H10000 is a debugging station for the Japanese market based on the SCPH-10000 style (i.e no expansion bay etc.).
The DTL-H30000 series is based on the SCPH-30000 series with the expansion bay. There is a DTL-H3010x series which is more advanced (and IMHO the best debugging station around). The DTL-H3010x series was sold with a HDD and network adapter and featured othe radditional enhancements.
The last batch is DTL-H50000 series. This style is based on the SCPH-50000 series (the quiet one with no i-link port).

It is possible to get an "S" series of debugging station, which is for PSone based games I think. The model number has an S at the end. I have read on the ASSEMbler forums before that the "S" means simple. These consoles lack some of the features of the TEST PS2 consoles mentioned above.

As with ALL PS2 debugging stations, none can play DVD movies. This was due to licensing issues. Apparently it is cheaper for (licensing wise) for the PS2 consoles to NOT play DVD movies. Why would you want it to anyway. The PS2 is crap at playing DVD movies, you can't even use an RGB SCART lead.

Oh and one more thing in case you didn't know..........DTL-H series TEST consoles are multi region. They play anything. Although only the DTL-H3010x series will play utility discs from other countries. The DTL-H50000 series may also, but I have yet to try this.

The last digit on the console model number indicates region. O is for Japan, 1 is for Americas, 2 is for Australia and Europe.

It is possible to buy foreign versions in other territories though. For example I have a "DTL-H30101 E". This console is NTSC U/C but it features a 240 volt power supply. It is also possible to get a DTL-H30001 in Japan, which is called a "DTL-H30001J" for example.

Dickibow is close, but not 100% correct.

Not all debug units have TEST on the front.

The original DTL-H1000x series units simply had PS2 on the front and were not capable of playing retail discs from any region other than Japan (though they could play master disc DVD-Rs from any region as well as any region PSone game).

The list is missing the DTL-H30001 (no letter at the end) unit.

The list indicates that the DTL-H5000x series are the most recent debug consoles produced. They are not. The most current debug (which is just sweet looking for coolness sake) are the DTL-H7000x series units which are based off the PStwo frame.

Also to note, while TEST units are region free, they do not convert the video so a PAL PS2 game played on a NTSC debug will still display in PAL.

They do slim TEST consoles now - that's really cool! Anyone got one they can post a piccy of...?

I was under the impression hl718, that only the "S" series of debug consoles had PS2 printed on the covers. DTL-H10000S series have PS2 on the cover BUT DTL-H10000 has "TEST" on the cover.

Also, on the rear label and the cardboard box you'll note that an "S" series console is described as a "PlayStation 2 debugging station" whereas a TEST (Non "S" model) is described as a Debugging Station for "PlayStation 2".

OK so what's the best things to buy? which PS2TOOL,DEBUG UNIT,HDD .....?

  15. TOOL is the 'best' thing to buy as it covers all bases.

...But in the 'real' world damn near any TEST / Debugging Station should do the job.

What's the difference between PS2 beta linux and Linux 1.0....?

I use my PAL Linux 1.0 and it works perfectly on DTL-H30101, although I have considered purchasing the beta kit purely to see if there's much difference.

    Is there any?

    (hehe, 100th post!)
