I managed to get one of these units, before you say search the threads for posts like this, i know they exist but i didn't want to bump a year old thread and was wondering if new info has come to light since.

So my basic question is a refurbished DTL-T10000 functionally the same as a DTL-T10000H?

It has a network card with an Ethernet port and a PCMCIA? slot in another card the letter R that is NOT handwritten next to the S/N, it also has the label REFUBISHED on the back where the cards are at the bottom.

EDIT: Also, the PCMCIA slot fits a DTL-H10010

I cannot totally answer your questions because I have never used one of these older TOOLs.

Its debugging functionality is exactly the same, but SCE described the H model as the one with support for the HDD unit.

It is known to have a PC CARD slot, but... if it worked, then there would be no need for a H-model.

Honestly, I am also curious to know what is different about it here. I don't know if you know how to do things with it, but I would load dev9.irx, just to see whether it'll locate the network adaptor.

The thing that perplexes me is that H pointing at the PCMCIA slot so it's possible this thing was retrofitted with the additional hardware, however before i turn this beast on i want to image/clone it's HDDs in case they fail in the future.

Also, i don't know how to get a keyboard to interact with the PC side, looks like i may need to add a PCI card with PS/2 (Green/purple plugs) keyboard support.

Perhaps, but the only way to find out is to test it.

Just a word of caution: if you want to preserve the exact condition of the TOOL, please take note that nobody was meant to log into the TOOL itself. I know that the info for resetting the TOOL's root password is available and people here actually do that... but it is not a documented thing. If you don't care about this, then it is okay.

The PS/2 ports are under the metal cover, on the SBC board (the PCI card with the network port on it).

That was also a secondary reason for imaging the HDDs, but not a primary one, to have a copy of the TOOL OS as close to as it's original form as possible.

Yep, found them how silly of me to miss that :)

Also, can the tool (PC side) PXE boot by chance, as i have an imaging server on my LAN or will i have to disassemble the unit to be able to back them up?

Has anyone had an experience of using Macrium Reflect instead of PXE based imaging for the PS2 TOOLs as i don't want to mess up the image and find out in a year or two my PS2 TOOL is now just hardware that is useless.

Alright, it looks like the first HDD (NOT CONNECTED TO THE PC PART) is toast, is there anything important on that drive?

Here's a documentation of the drive startup and stop:

(Yes, i avoid uploading to YouTube, warning for data capped users, the file size is just over 300MB)

The 2nd disk is connected to the AIF of TOOLs that do not have the DTL-T14000 DVD emulator PCI board installed (which yours does not have). Losing that is not a loss because nothing is known to use the AIF's HDD for anything useful.

Phew. so it's all good if i remove it from the TOOL completely as it serves no purpose in this unit.

Why not just keep it there? Removing it wouldn't make it better anyway.
I see that you got IBM Deathstars. :<

Well, the loud noise when it's trying to work :p

Also the PC HDD is maxtor, probably slightly more reliable.

    Ah okay.

Just load it through dsidb and watch the messages that it prints. Your network adaptor has to be inserted.
If it is successful, then it would indicate the SSBUS Interface controller (likely CXD9566R) and the SPEED revision.

Not sure how dsidb works, but i ran find and found dev9.irx in /usr/local/sony/diag/modem/dev9.irx

Okay, then try issuing these commands (assuming that dsidb is in your path):
    Code:
    cd /usr/local/sony/diag/modem
    dsidb -d <Your tool's address>
    mstart dev9.irx

If you logged into your TOOL for this, then you can omit the -d <Your tool's address> parameter.

    The result:

    Code:
    dev9: CXD9566 detected.
    dev9: T10K detected
    dev9: 16bit pcmcia card detected. vcc = 3V
    dev9: Speed chip: ES2
    dev9: CXD9566(pcmcia) driver start

Looks like my unit does indeed look to be retrofitted.

That is one possibility. IMO, it isn't impossible for T10Ks to actually have a functioning interface. They mentioned that the H-models have support for the HDD unit... but why only mention the HDD unit? So I think it is possible that the T10K units aren't compatible with their HDD DNAS.

    Thanks for sharing, BTW.

No problem, HDD has little bearing for day to day use anyways (Hardly ever used by devs), if i ever come across a DTL-H20400 i'll try it out, at least I'm part of the TOOL owners club one way or another :p Also, if i can get ps2ident running on it, i'll be sure to pass along the info :)
