yeah, sure, why don't all countries join the euro? making it the worlds only currency, eliminating the forex market.
True, but then again similar systems in many other situations were pretty much the same - the US navy for example. ------------ I think the problem is partly the media. Newspapers for the most part are sold as entertainment, which is a problem when effectively the media have as much say in the running of the country as the government. Its an unfortunate trend that New Labour started with media savy-ness and spin. It doesn't help that the media aren't held to much responsibility and hence get away with pure lying, as in the MMR scandel (when media ran away with the link to autism based on 1 not credible study that went contrary to professional opinion, only for the writer to be revealed as a liar at which point the media had a witchhunt against him, ignoring the fact the part they played, all to sell newspapers). I can't pretend to present this as fact, but it is worrying when you hear of the amount of collusion between the media and the government. It is difficult to quantify, but I feel many problems occur from the media, the 'blame culture' and the fact that what people hear is governed by how much money it would make. Another thing that pisses me off is that essentially, there is no party for me. Certain issues I feel would go towards the right, while some are considered left. I just consider them sensible and in the economic interests of the country. Many issues are seen as on a particular side of the spectrum due to how the media have treated the issues. For example I'm not really sure why wanting to limit immigration is automatically considered right wing. Or why believing publicly funded institutions reflects the will of individuals better than private has to be considered left wing. Surely along those lines all government is left wing? Or why certain human emotions are considered to be left or right. I suppose its history, but its bloody annoying. I don't think conservative viewpoints with regards to preference to private enterprise is particularly suitable with the increase of businesses' power these days. Reading over that a lot of it seems self contradictory and illogical but what I'm getting at is with the massive change of the world recently many ideas from all areas don't necessarily adhere to the left or right for any other reason than history. Though I'm not sure, its a confusing time to live in with so much information.
Seems to me the pattern is all currencies around the world are coming into parity with each other. If I were a nutty conspiracy theorist, I would think this would mean something.
It is traded by individuals just like other currencies though. How can that not have an effect on the price?
Considering that almost 50% of all moneys is found in off-shore banks (see unregulated), it's easy to see how you can fiddle around with numbers on the grand scale of things  could you explain in your own words, what was it that made the Cypriot Pound so valuable? even more than the GBP? (They did adopt the Euro eventually though)
My point exactry. Absolutely not. Other than a relationship w/ a headhunter, I know jack about the place.
Oh the drama! lets be honest here, just how much people get a loan because they REALLY need it? like for a life-saving surgery? just a fraction. And of all the people defaulting right now, how many took said loans to buy stupid shit they didnt actually need? Have you read any of those best sellers about becoming rich? they're chock full of common sense ideas for saving money and keeping expenses to a minimun, nothing about becoming a millonaire. Yet they keep selling simply because a huge chunck of the population lacks any self-control or even the simplest form of financial knowledge: IF YOU CANT AFFORD IT YOU CANT HAVE IT. After all, what was the real state bubble but the consequence of people being obssesed to buy a house they couldnt possible pay for? they got a loan and suddenly everybody did, triggering a price war that dried any liquidity left.
