Hi everyone, This might be a no-brainer for many of you, but can anyone tell me how to go about taking a game off of the internal HDD? Is it even possible? Ideally, I'd like to remove one (or more) of the games currently installed on the system and keep a backup in case the system dies on me. Originally, the game was installed via a standard .pkg file, so I was hoping I'd be able to extract it to be the same sort of thing. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
Have you tried the Backup/Restore Utlity under system settings? or Comgenie's Awesome File Manager or Multiman (lastest versions)? those can possibly backup anything you desire
connect target manager to your ps3 -> click "File Explorer" -> navigate to /dev_hdd0/game/ -> download any game you want.
Okay, I think I've managed to extract the data I was after (just took the entire set of folders relevant to the game in question). The question now is, can it be placed on a different TEST unit and run without any modifications?
Assuming that the game is indeed a debug(and uses a free license), you would have to create a package from the files, and then install the package on the new test unit. The package process is required as the standard security for PS3 does not allow you to create folders under /dev_hdd0/game folder.
Thanks for the tip, keberasky. I presume the game is a debug version as it predates the release version and will not install on a retail PS3 unit, apparently. As for the free license, is there a way I can check to verify?
Usually if a game title requires a paid license it will have an owner. Probably the surest way though is to build the package as free and try it on a new system. The game will display an 0x80029513 (no entitlement) or a 0x80029521 (no license) instead of starting.
