Never have. Had a server named Durian at work, they sell them at the store I go to, and that's the extent of my knowledge of them. I hear they smell like shit.
The crips are nice indeed, the durian itself I just don't really care for it that much. It doesn't taste bad, just not good enough to go through the effort to eat it.
Coz in my country..They sells them here n there. Different grades. Few days back.. I was at a stall, these french guys were saying they thought blue cheese was 'powerful', they ate durians.. One was telling me the feeling or rather the smell was like a 'knockout punch' from Mohammed Ali. lol
Are they expensive at your countries? We have some for like 50cents (Singapore Dollars). While some premium could cost us 20bucks per kilogram.
What do they taste like. Anthony Bordain LOVES them and describes it as tasting custardy but Andrew Zimmern says it tastes like rotting onions. (they're chefs/Travel Channel hosts)
Like what good ol' Anthony mentioned. Its the smell the strong smell. I dun think it stink. Nice smelling to me. Haha ..
