Can anyone recommend some good free DVD software. I currently use Nero but the encoding they use is far from perfect plus limits you to 8mbps. I'm looking for some software that can built a DVD video disc with menus and convert avi to MPEG2 DVD format.

Have you tried something like Roxio Creator 2010?

I used something like either the same but an older version of that software or an older bit of software similar to that also from Roxio and it worked pretty good although not tried 2010 yet so not sure how well it works.

I know the Roxio name but have never tried their DVD software. I'll give it a shot to see how it is. Thanks

I would recommend you ConvertXtoDvd 3 because it's the best dvd sotware I've ever used, but it's not free.

I've heard Format Factory is good and it's free.

Well, I finally got it sorted. I used Format Factory to convert the video files in to MPEG2 (thanks for the info, Jackhammer) with perfect results. Then got myself Sothink Movie DVD Maker. This software is fantastic. Amazing video quality with VBR encoding plus 5.1 Dolby Digital support all for FREE ! OK, they do stick a little message screen at the beginning of each chapter on the disc but if you pay the very cheap 29 USD that will be removed. Well worth the cash IMO. Shits all over Nero in terms of video quality, speed and ease of use.
