    Hello,

I am looking for help with my DVT4.
When I place a beta disc in the DVD drive while in the XDK launcher nothing seems to happen (apart from the green light flashing for a few seconds).
I also tried launching the game from the dashboard, and I get the 'Your Xbox can't recognize this disc' error.

This isn't a one off situation, it's happening for all my beta discs.

Is this a sign that the DVD drive is failing and must be replaced, or that I haven't set something right in the XDK launcher, or something completely different?

I'm running XDK 5849.1 if this helps.

This is my first XDK, and I've never really modified an Xbox before, so I am a bit of a noob.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    -lucas93

Sure the discs are actually "Beta"? Or is the .xbe on these discs actually flagged for debug? If not then patch them, there's a nice patcher on xbins that'll let it play them, not sure what else it could be other than the DVD Drive taking a crap?

    Thanks for the reply :)

I bought the Xbox and the beta discs (they are marked with 'Microsoft confidential') as part of a bundle. There are saved games on the Xbox HDD from these betas, and the person I bought these off says they were working fine before he shipped the unit off to me.
I just tried an audio CD in the dashboard and that failed as well.

It's looking like the DVD drive isn't working :(

Damn, I was hoping I wouldn't have to break the 'Do not open' seal :(

While I'm at it, I'll change the power supply from a US power supply (110V) to an Australian power supply (240V). Should any Xbox power supply do, or do I need a 1.0 power supply?

For the PSU you can use a 1.0 or a 1.1 240V PSU since your in pal land.

Xbox's are very cheap now so you could find a Pal retail 1.0 or 1.1 and just swamp out the dvd drive and psu.

What's the difference between the power supplies in different Xbox versions? Why isn't, for example, a 1.3 power supply compatible with a 1.0 Xbox?

Connectors. 1.0 and 1.1 use the same connector that was used on PC-XT.

1.3 up to 1.5 use ATX style connector (pinout is different)

And 1.6 use a new PSU design which is incompatible with 1.3-1.5, again having yet another different pinout.
