    Hey Everyone,

Do people find that they can get a better sell price using E-Bay, or just doing private deals on forums? I know it’s a pretty general question, and E-Bay hasn’t been the same place as it used to be, but from my inexperienced opinion, I have an itch that thinks E-Bay will still get you a better offer than forums (in general).

    Any thoughts?

It is a really random question, because it depends on multiple factors: time, luck, etc etc. It's difficult to answer on that one..

I'm thinking on similar lines, except I figure Ebay has an edge due to exposure. Since it's a large common place to gather and sell/buy stuff, a small forum in the corner of the internet probably can't compete unless you get lucky or target very specific people.

    i'd say it depends.

On ebay your getting a wider audience than say on a forum because of many forums having a target audience of say rare/obscure gaming collectors...etc. It really does depend on many factors including what your actually selling as sometimes you see auctions on ebay going pretty high right till the end and then the same item in a different auction going really low and making not much money so you could take a risk and ebay an item to see if it could get a higher than normal price due to many people seeing it or you could place it on a forum in the knowlege that you'd get a decent price if someone wanted it.

You may get a better price on eBay (or not, as others have said), but you have to factor in the fees. Isn't it 10% for video games (up to £50), then 5% up to £250 - or something along those lines - probably depends on which country you're in, too. Then there are the PayPal fees on top of that (that can apply to forum deals, but you have the choice of using "gift" payments outside of eBay). In then end, you may only be making a few extra quid (if anything).

Then you have the fact that eBay is brimming with hooting dick-holes, whereas forum dwellers are usually of a much higher intellect and are less likely to give you problems. :)

I choose forums first (for the reasons above), then chuck the non-sellable stuff on eBay whenever they have a free-listing day.

    Just my tuppence.

You may get a better price at ebay and vice versa. It depends on what you're selling.

Stuff on Forums tend to take longer to sell, whereas on ebay you will sell it in 7 days, but you might have it sold at the price you want it to sell at.

It depends how badly you want to get rid of said item, the price you want to get, and if you're willing to pay a good amount of fees for using ebay.

I always try the forums first!

    Mainly because -
Ebay fees are too high and once paypal have also had there cut your left with nothing
There is too many non paying bidders (I have had 3 in the past 2 months)
You can select who you sell what to on the forums and can also look to trade your stuff
People understand what they are buying on the forum (most of the time) and you don't get messages saying 'why won't this PAL game work on my NTSC console'
I have built up allot of contacts and friends on forums and know that if you give someone a good deal this time they will (again, most of the time) give you a good deal in return next time
If you use the right forum to sell the right item you won't actually lose that much (probably nothing once you consider the saved fees)

I much to prefer direct on the forums mainly because the item stays within this community, thus it's more likely to be cared and appreciated for.

Ebay + paypal = almost 15% of the gross, or more depending on where you live. Higher in UK.

Ya. Now that I think about it, Ebay does take a huge percentage of your sales out. Plus you have to deal with jerks who claim product was never sent as if shipping is instant and nonsense like that. :/
