Was it a Player's Choice edition (wonders if it was even placed on this game)?

Probablyl PC edition. On 1995, ESRB changed the lettering of hte ratings. Well 1995 is when i started to notice the E rating on games.

The original KA one? I doubt it since they were on the first batch of the games before, IIRC, a million copies were sold in the US. They are similar to Greatest Hits of PSX & Dreamcast games.

I can see a few of the DKC 2's on eBay, and I have a copy myself...

I didnt saw the E rating until 1997-98.

All my copies of 32X and Saturn games from 1995-96 have the KA badge on them.

The E rating is an ESRB rating.
The K-A rating is a VRC rating.

The VRC ratings were dropped in favor of consolidating the industry on the ESRB ratings as the ESA has a pretty powerful voice in the industry.

The VRC rating equivalent to E was GA "general audience".

    The KA was already ESRB...

Doh. You might be correct. Hard to keep it all straight sometimes. ;)

KA was indeed an esrb raiting. Orignaly it was use to say this game was ok for all audiences. Then there was E raiting at the same time, but it had pretty much the same raiting as K-A, except it was suppose to mean apropriate for infants too. Since it was redundat having 2 raitings that were barely any different, the esrb dropped K-A in favor for E.

I heard they dropped the KA because the "adult" in the badge made people think it could contain adult themes
