http://www.ea.com/news/ea-announces-ea-access-on-xbox-one Sounds like a deal, especially if you are into Madden or Fifa. Now, because I'm a crotchety old man, I will always think there's a catch with something like this. What could it be? Microsoft is subsidizing this to help Xbox One sales (fair enough...) It STARTS at just $4.99 a month (where does it END?) "Free" games appear to limited to games they put in the "EA Vault" which is as vague as possible. Will all new games enter the vault? Probably not! DLC doesn't appear to be included (but you get 10% off any purchase!) It looks like it could still go either way. I'm always a fan of owning a game, but considering I only really like to play EA's sports titles, which aren't rare nor do they have high resale value, I get the appeal. This will in no way entice me to buy an Xbox One though.
I'm on the fence about this EA Access. It can be a good thing but it's EA we're talking about. I'm afraid this turn into something like Games with Gold in which the people paying only get old games. It seems you will have access to betas for new games which is nice but again it's beta. We don't know how long will it take to a new game to be added to the EA Vault. I don't plan to buying access for this anytime soon.
For EA games, and mainly EA sports ones, I kinda like this idea. At least it's cheaper than PS Now's beta is.
AW YISS I've always wanted to play all of their slightly different releases of Madden. Jokes aside this isn't too shabby.
Maybe romero is right and f2p is killing the console/AAA, thats the only reason I imagine EA would go for something like this
I think it's probably a way for EA to make money off older current gen titles. Right now it's got FIFA 14, Madden 25, Battlefield 4 and Peggle 2. All of those were launch titles, and I doubt many people are still buying new copies of FIFA and Madden (or Battlefield 4 for that matter) since new editions are only a few months away. Plus the discount on digital purchases is a "nice incentive" to get people to stop buying physical discs.
Can't say I'm interested in this. I don't really play sports games, and I don't really like supporting EA much anymore. Now if we were talking sixth generation EA, than absolutely. Although the concept seems decent, I feel like it could be another online pass situation. They want to capitalize on something then just abandon it once they feel as though need isn't there/someone makes it obsolete.
Why do I have the feeling that gaming will soon go to a rental commercial model? Just wait for when the next Battlefield is "EA Access ONLY".
