The spouse of an EA employee speaks out about the hours:

    9am to 10pm 7 days a week? Fuck that.

I think this has done the rounds here before, and to be honest, a lot of it smells of BS.

I dunno, there are people in the world who work hours like that.

Investment Banking comes to mind, 70hr weeks every week aren't uncommon in that field. They generally don't get weekends off.

I worked 82hrs the 2nd week in Jan, quarter close. I mean, that only happens once per year, but I routinely pull a 60+hr week.

EDIT: The Director of Acquisitions at my company gets to the office every day at around 5:30am, and generally doesn't leave until after 8. He probably stays after midnight at least one night a week.

It would be quite funny if this disgruntled spose were just going on "hey hun, sorry I have to stay late at work again" - that's the oldest excuse in the book ;-) hehehe

It's probably true, but it's hardly just EA that does it.

Its a little bit of both. It gets really tough but if you love your job you won't complain because there will be someone there to replace you in an instant. Thats why a lot of game programmer and most them leave the industry after a few years because they get burned out and I don't blame them. But I don't want to burn out when I get into the industry. Thats why I hope that I make it well enough to where I don't have to force my employees or myself to work that long. People have lives you know.

I used to work at a white hen pantry,... and there was this woman there who would work at least 80 hours a week... she pretty much lived in the store because it was 24 hours... she used to bake all of te pastries and stuff... I couldnt believe it... I couldnt imagine working that much... there has to be a balance.., thats why I pitty people who waste their lives becoming doctors and such.... Its cool that you make a ton of money and all, but if your always at work, what difference does it make??? I think the trick in life is to get yourself a nice 45,000 a year job and enjoy life... What you lack in money you more than make up for in quality of life, and isnt that really all that matters?? Of course if you can manage to get a job that pays a ton and takes up very little time, go for it.... but its not whats really important... People put too much energy worrying about being greatly successful. Even millionares eventually start to take it for granted after a while, and then your no happier than someone who worked alot less hard and is just as happy.. and when your 80, you'll look back and say "what was the whole point?"
