I don't know how many Earthbound devotees hang out around here, but I've been singing this game's praises since the day it came out (in all of its huge-box-scratch'n'sniff glory). Following the recent announcement, relevant info toward the bottom of linked page, that NoA was not working on a localization of the long-awaited Mother 3, Starmen.net (long time detractors of ROM translations) announced today that it will be working on it's own fan translation. The team working on the project is full of big names including:
    • Tomato, a professional translator and prestigious member of the Earthbound community.
    • Clyde Mandelin, a professional translator with an impressive resume.
    • Gideon Zhi of Aeon Genesis
    • And, demi of Neo Demiforce (a man who needs no introduction for those who are familiar with "Earthbound Zero")
The full announcement and quite a bit about the decisions behind it can be found here:

Nintendo's attitute towards earthbound outisde of japan has been intolerable. I m sure more people care about having a proper Earthbound title than Mario Party (insert number here)

I don't get Nintendo's treatment of Earthbound/Mother. Yes, the first game did poor compared to what it could have been (Then again, I don't remember Nintendo trying to advertise it, either). However, SSBM should have sparked some sort of interest in people, as well as the older fans.

Nintendo did advertise Earthbound quite a bit, I think. I think I remember a TV commercial and, if not that, they definitely had print ads in game mags. I remember thinking they were cool because some of the ads had scratch-and-sniff cards of the enemies that you could punch out of the cardboard... if it wasn't for those I probably never would have tried the game.

Nintendo is the type that once something has sold under expectations, they dont ever sell it again, this inculdes sequals. Maybe theres hope on that mother trilogy game for ds.

If nothing else, I hope they release EarthBound again on Virtual Console for the Wii. Maybe then, if enough copies are sold, they'll reconsider bringing over Mother 3 and perhaps Mother 1+2.

Well, regardless to nintendo's moves, I for one love earthbound. It's one of my favourite RPG series, as I actually like the world it presents more than any FF for example (yes even FF Vii )

I'm not so sure about that. I remember when the game was out and all of my friends were obsessed with it for a while (except for me, since I had a Genesis).
