I didn't even know there had been one. I did know about the Chinese tower block going up in smoke and the Korean office block doing the same last week.

Lol.... from my chat quote at work:
(08:10:23 PM) gaijin_punch: I've either got bad vertigo or there was a 2nd Earthquake today

Barely felt it, but it was enough.

Generally small ones are good. It keeps the massive adjustments at bay (in theory). Honestly though, Japan has hundreds of Earthquakes a year.

I'm sure you can hear about the latest dessert (complete w/ close up shot) at some point on TV today too.

The earhquake epicentre was just off the coast of Ibaraki and measured 4.9, however only the east of Ibaraki got 3 or above. With Tokyo getting 1 (which means you would need to be sitting down or standing still to feel it).

A few weeks ago I did feel a bigger earthquake as the epicentre was only 2km away from where I am, it was a 4.9 again but it measured 4, that one felt more scary. I think northern Tokyo got a 2 on this one.

So that means Tatsujin was either lying down or in a mid-air jump?

It needs to be quite large to feel it in a moving car... at least in the city. Chances are you're not on solid ground most of the time anyway.

Well he is in Yokohama which is a bit more south then Tokyo, which means he didn't feel it as Yokohama never really got it. As it was so weak, even if he was in Tokyo you might not feel it if travelling (walkng, running, train, metro) or even if in a busy environment with lots of other movement or traffic.

Tokyo has on average about 15 earthquakes a year, but most of them are generally have a magnitude of less then two, so you won't feel them most of the time. Although they had a 6.6 magnitude earthquake earlier this year which shut the trains and metro down for a while.

He'd have been in Tokyo at the time of the quake though, unless he was skipping work.

Or maybe I've randomly bumped into him on Tokyo excursions twice by sheer luck? Also possible.

While we're on the topic... fujin, Yokohama is probably a worse place Earthquake wise. There is a fault line running through Shizuoka that can, theoretically, cause Mt. Fuji to erupt. Yokohama would be far more susceptible to damage. Or something like that.

Yeah -- and that one I clearly felt. Even on only the 2nd floor (of 4) I got a good shake.

My friend (near Shinjuku) said he didn't feel it, and he also missed the last. Where was the epicentre this time guys? Where are you based, GP?

I was in Yoyogi, so very close to Shinjuku. Epicenter was miles away (500 miles south) but it was 6.9, so quite large. Depends on the building you're in really. Nothing fell over, but I was staring at my computer screen, so I can sense the slightest movement.

    Ah ok :)

He's really close to yoyogi, but god knows what he was doing. Do you work or live in the vicinity?

I'm going to start apartment hunting in meidaimae in about 2 weeks (online) as I go to Japan in 39 days! :)

I work in Odaiba with a view of Mt Fuji literally just by looking up (if my work mates do not close the blinds) - We are on the 3rd floor and it was shaking quite a bit with about 20 seconds of after tremors
Our building is new so you would hope they have some nice seismic protection
