So I finally feel what a richter scale 5 earthquake feels like for at least 5 seconds, it caused my clock to fall off the wall and make me spill my coffee but apart from rattling the doors nothing else happened. Although everytime I have been to Japan I have felt at least one earthquake even if most of them felt like tiny shimmers.

Anyone else felt an earthquake in japan?

Yeah, all the time. Nothing too crazy though. My wife was in Osaka for Kobe, Hawaii for their only quake in 50 years, and was also in NYC during 9/11. She's a bit of a black cat.

yeah..last last week (or so) the M7.8 from aoiyama. then all those smalls during all the weeks. and the almost 6 in chiba 3 years ago, when we was driving on the toyko high way and suddenly the whole bridge and our car started to shift left and right like being on a roller coaster.

where did you had the M5 encounter you talking about?

Aren't you people getting nervous in the Kanto area? Chances for a big one anytime soon are quite high, aren't they.

I've felt quite a few (there were some big ones in kita kyushu last year). The first one was in Tokyo back in 1998. That was quite a surprise.

What Tatsujin said. I don't get how they calculate something "quite high" for a still unpredictable phenomenon.

I watched "Boku no Kanajo ha Cyborg" on the plane today. Mini spoiler: It had footage of a huge Earthquake. Definitely don't want to be around for that.

Probability. I think it went somewhat like 70% in the next 30 years for a big earthquake to occur according to the latest TV special (yes, I know... but read it in other places as well).

And while I like to think the same way as Tatsujin, I'd still be scared shit when the earth doesn't stop shaking. [/Drama]

It is indeed something to think about. But what're ya gonna do, dodge Earthquakes?

Not a terrible movie... kind of cheesy at parts. Reminded me of IQ (which was awful) but more of a love story. The Japanese in it is softball's galore, so if you want an ego booster, watch it w/o subtitles.

FYI, I think the English title is Cyborg She (kind of stupid).

I went through a 30second scale 5 but I was in UENO at the time, browsing those shops under the train lines and with all the rumble from the passing trains above I didnt even notice it.

I got back at the station and saw all the ticket gates open and a JR guy talking loudly and waving his arms, I thought it was weird but I really didnt care.

Then I waited like 5m for the YAMANOTE train and started to wonder why it was taking so long (yeah 5m on the YAMANOTE is too long!), whe the train finaly arrived the screens on the train all mentioned earthquake

This is to Assembler. It seems we in New York are way overdue for an earthquake. We haven't had one that could be felt since 1989. The bedrock under NYC is very unstable now there are tons of skyscrapers drilled into it so it has a chance of giving way.
