While searching online for ways to make a multibootable USB drive, I came across this thing: http://www.zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=431 This thing is a virtual drive device. You put a standard 2.5" SATA HDD in it and load ISO images onto it. There's a scroll wheel on the side to select the different images for a computer to load as though they were in a real optical drive. MY thought was this could be useful for console that need an optical drive emulator. The drive emulator could be simplified to load only one image at a time and use this virtual drive to select which image to load up. The drive emulator would just simply need to allow for the firmware of the device to be accepted. This could be good for say an Xbox that a user wants to delete the DVD drive off of but not get banned from Xbox Live. A small mod to the Xbox firmware that is made to be undetectable could do this. Then it is plug and play since the virtual drive has SATA connection too.

That device is USB. The xbox will not load games from USB. You cant patch the xbox firmware to load from usb rather than the internal sata dvdrom. The esata interface also wont work, data to and from the dvd rom in the xbox is encrypted (hence the dvd key you need to pair drives). None of this is understood by the item you posted a link to.

Optical emulators already exist, trying to repurpose something that doesnt even understand the xbox disc format and doesnt even use the same interface is just silly.

Cool idea but not really possible.

The simple thing to not get banned from live? Don't violate live policies. You want to play ball in their court you have to play by their rules.

There is no risk of being banned on live with an original xbox, as you cant connect.

That + he mentions SATA connection (which the original xbox is IDE) - he is obviously talking about the 360.

Yes, but you know how there has been talks of "SATA ON XBOX" It's hard to define which one he's talking about... I know about the live thing, but you know, not everyone is aware that original LIVE is dead... without mentioning who thought it would still work. I think you know who I'm talking about lol.

I looked into this thing more and found out everything Bad_Ad84 said is true. Too bad. Still a cool idea and device. There's even another version of it that replaces the USB 2.0 and ESATA with USB 3.0 for extreme speeds with images.

EDIT: For those wondering, I was talking about the Xbox 360 since it uses SATA. Original Xbox is IDE.
