http://wii.ign.com/articles/806/806217p1.html It hooks up to your router/modem/whatever through RJ45 and works as an access-point for the Wii, PS3, DS and PSP (maybe other stuff too?). Saves you time for setting up stuff, and sure beats the USB nintendo dongle. An obvious advantage compared to the USB dongle is that you don't need to have your PC on in order to game. Additionally, the AOS button makes connecting the consoles a breeze (although i m aware those of you in Japanland are quite acustomed to those!)
So that connects, via wireless, to your router, and its got ports on the back for your PS2, 360 etc. to plug into?
no, the other way around. it connects via wire to the router, and allows consoles with wifi support to use it as a wireless access point.
Thats the most useless thing since DualDisc. You can get a real router for $40 nowadays, and many ISPs give them away for free (that's how I got mine). The reverse is a much better idea, especially for the 360.
I beg to differ, in the contrary i find it very useful. In my case, instead of being forced to buy a compatible router, i can use my existing one and just throw this box in for the consoles. this also resolves the WEP weakness issue of the DS. meaning that my whole PC system can rely on better protection, like WPA2 , and my consoles can be on WEP through this sole access point.
True on the WEP issue, but it means that some ass with a laptop and not enough females in his life can park outside and mooch off your connection, downloading mad warez and landing you in shit with the LAPD\RIAA. But they won't steal your credit card number.
that's not a real concern since you can input which MAC addresses are exclusively using the access point in question, barring any asshole or asshole-variant from using your internets. This is easily achieved by pressing the AOSS button on the top of the wireless access point while having made the appropriate selection on your console's menu. There has to be actual physical pressing of the button for the router to sync and pair with your devices. So, no asshole can really use your connection.
http://www.gorlani.com/publicprj/macmakeup/macmakeup.asp Nothing is safe from cracking. You can only make it harder for them.
well if you want to use that argument, then you should already know that even WPA2 isn't safe. Debating aside, you can't argue with useful stuff when you don't want wire clutter
My Buffalo router has all that on it, I find it very handy for consoles! It's also very safe. Never had any problems.
You can just get a plain old wireless AP which does this - I have one from about 18months ago which cost me £20. Ethernet and power in, Wireless out. Piece of piss.
Still a nice piece of equipment for the mindless consumers to enjoy. In my opinion it is very nifty for the average gamer.
