I have never seen a policy so retarded. Anyone else have problems with this? I wonder how many legitimate auctions have been cancelled due to false accusations. When my auction is cancelled due to it being a legitimately "modified" (as in 50/60hz switchable) SNES, while "ROM" CDs and "HDTVs for $2 eBooks" are being sold, I can't help but shake my head.
It's like their moral code when it comes to videogames is fucked up. They can't seem to understand that the likes of boot disks & chipped consoles is deemed acceptable and then they allow like people paying to be involved in snuff. The problem is they are getting worse.
Oh. My. God. This hapenned to me when I listed a JP Dreamcast Game. A LEGIT AUTHENTIC 100% REAL JP Dreamcast game. And I included the words "you will need a mod chip, boot disc etc. to play this game." And they took it down. Now this wouldn't have been so bad, except for two facts: 1. The fact that in the email about it being taken down, they included the words "if you relist this item, we may be forced to suspend your account." I almost wrote them an email back telling them they were stupid fucktards for taking down my LEGIT auction, while letting the bastards selling PA and Half Life to continue making $10 a piece for some burned illegal CD-Rs. I really had to restrain myself. 2. Above said CD-Rs etc. Look at the fucking anime on eBay. All fake, and they know it. But they claim "ignorance" that it is fake, saying there isn't evidence of this claim, even if the seller's feedback is inundated with negatives saying they are bootlegs. This pisses me off to no end. It's not enough to make me stop selling eBay; the pros and convience still outweigh the cons, but they need to fix some of their shit up, and not just on the selling/piracy front. (Stern look at Paypal and their scheming ways, as well as all the NPBs).
Just an aside - a lot of the Hong Kong anime is, technically, legal over there in Hong Kong, which could be the reason why a blind eye is turned. Modchips for the purpose of piracy are not allowed anywhere, I think. Also, I believe they just have a bot or something that scans auctions for key words - it would explain why legit auctions get pulled but sneakier shady ones stay in.
best list auction with minimum description and hope the buyer to figure out what they are getting into... I know it sucks but I leant hard way and as long as you don't be too kind to potentional buyer eBay will leave you alone... so I just add "...once item is sold no refund/exchange due to incompatibility... or such crap" also I cancel the bid from anyone with zero feedback and so far haven't heard from eBay... :smt043 I understand someone has to start from somewhere and you can't start with positive feedback but it's just me after burnt countless times with those bogus buyers... my pet peeve is those zero bidders from Africa or South Pacific area... no offence but those who disappeared after won the auction were all from those area... now if I see the bidder from that region I ask and if no reply I just cancel the bid and block the buyer... now I just allow only the bidders from AU, US, Canada, UK and Europe only... you can set up that way if you want...
Their policy is that they'll cancel the auction if you are "encouraging" people to use illicit practices (if you even mention bootdisks or modchips of course the auction will be cancelled) but even so, I never once mentioned anything frowned upon. I simply listed my Mani SNES... My guess is that I was user reported which makes me really sick because eBay actually cancelled my item after it was relisted after being sold (to a deadbeat) a few days ago. My biggest eBay peeve are stupid 10 feedback Americans who blindly bid and bitch after buying a PAL console... they have nothing to loose if you NPB them.
You have to be very careful with what you write on Ebay. they can be right twats at times. I normally list my games as "Please note that this disc is for use on Japanese Saturn systems. The disc will not work on a US or PAL Saturn unless it is modified to play Japanese software" Also have you noticed that Ebay.com doesn't have any NTSC-J option yet is does have NTSC, PAL and SECAM. Now why is that? Yakumo
coz haven't had any bidder from that part of the world mate ;-) if needed I can turn on for those as well
I wonder how "You must be able to play Japanese software" etc with no mention of a boot disc/mod chip would go? I see plenty of auctions with that in the description.
I always put in "make sure you can play this game before bidding" in my auctions. However, most of my auctions are in Dutch, which might make it less susceptible to bots. The downside is buying a CD-i "beta" which turns out to be a goddamn home-burned CD-R, which happened to me :angry
As has been suggested by other people, it's very likely that a bot searches through ebay auctions, knocking off any that reference modchips. Next time I stick an import game on ebay I'll put "m0dchip required" in the description and see what happens.
It's not legal to bootleg JP anime (i.e. Cowboy Bebop), mass produce it in Hong Kong and then give 0% profits to the the creators! :smt009 I wouldn't have been pissed about it, 'cept for the assholes who are selling NES games on DC, PA on DC, back up copies on DC, Xboxes with 56 hot new releases etc, when its listed in the auction. I see fuckers with the word backup/backups, or with pictures showing the CD-Rs, and eBay ignores them. I'm sure back-ups of anything are very, very legal to sell (rolls eyes).
You won't believe this but those bastards at EBay removed my Shining Force III Premium disc auction :smt067 I'm outraged at this. How the hell can that auction be classed as against the rules ? I wrote to them and you know what I got? A bloody automatic response !! I'm really pissed off now. Does anyone know of an address I can write to that won't result in EBay send me an automatic "Fuck off" response. Yakumo
From my experience, it's physically impossible to talk to any real people in eBay. I was complaining to them before about the sign-up form - there was still a UK-type postcode field when you put Ireland as your country, even though we don't have those postcodes (the only postcodes we do have are in Dublin, and they're only 1 or 2 digit numbers), and it wouldn't let you make an account if you didn't fill this in. I got a response from them a few days later, basically telling me to "enter my postcode here". I DON'T HAVE A FOOKING POSTCODE YOU MORONS - THAT'S THE PROBLEM!!
