Uhh.... burn your house down?! Is he thinking of the dodgy PS2 slim PSUs? And why would you need a "really old British TV" to use SCART?! Don't your TVs have SCART any more in Australia? lol

 

Early XBOX PSUs, especially Foxlink caught fire. The box just protects it basically from what I hear, and it's called the protection cord... who knows if it really did save anything.

No we don't have SCART over here, no TVs (to my knowledge had the connection), Microsoft just didn't do their research and shipped it with the SCART connector anyway.

 

Can confirm that very few TVs sold over in Australia had a SCART socket, so some inane reason.

 

Really? I always thought you did. You'd have thought it would have been handy, being so close to Japan... or perhaps they didn't want you confusing it with the Japanese system.

Xbox PSUs were fine here - was that an Australian thing, too? I worked in retail AND repair back then, and we never had any recall notices OR a single Xbox with a PSU issue.

 

It's very odd, since we basically have all electronics built the same as UK releases of electronics. Just shipped with a different plug, for obvious reasons. Wish we had scart though anything beats RF and Composite.

I think it was a worldwide issue, there was a lot of reports about Xboxes going up in flames. It was really only for the Foxlink PSUs, they were horrible... really horrible. Reason why they were no longer used after 1.2.

Japan got the weirdest looking protection cord, since it didn't have a standard end. Instead they had a massive box transformer with the pins attached. Like the PSone PSU, Megadrive PSU and the like. I believe all of the west got the standard end. To my knowledge the Kiosk units had these protection cords standard, well version 2 did at least.

Personally I didn't hear of any issues either, but Microsoft didn't really recall anything. I think people had to order them personally, not too sure how it went about. Someone might be able to explain that, since I didn't actually own an Xbox through it's generation.

 

If there were any known cases it was small.

MS ran an exchange program where you could call up and get a free replacement posted.

Uptake was low because few people actually cared enough to bother.

 

I know there was a recall in the US, or at least an exchange. I got one, free power cord.

 

All of his SNES games are like that. No VGA, no nothing. Just because.

 

Cool. Guess I will also put my cartridges in sandwich bags and offer them with a 4000% markup on ebay.

 

Is star fox somewhat uncommon in the US or is that guy just a dick? I picked up a boxed and complete PAL copy for $15 and this is the usual price.

 

Starfox is like 8$ in loose.

 

To be fair, that's about the same as getting it VGA "graded."

 

Just write a number over 80 on it, and nobody will notice!

 

I have one of the XBOX protection cords (UK version). It has a big box in the middle with green and red buttons to set/reset it. I read something in a magazine about a problem with the cord so I ordered one online, it was free so I thought "why not".

 

Okay, I'll be listing some sandwich bags over the weekend, they're all VGA graded and bidding starts at $250 per bag.

No time wasters, please. These bags can house lettuce based sandwiches and NTSC SNES carts ONLY.

No ham, no chicken salad, or Stadium Events (they're out of stock until 2016 so please don't ask)

 

What about Japanese Super Famicom games?

Famicom sandwich bags are a rare commodity, I was offered a bundle of ham, cheese, and famicom bags but the seal wasn't very good - the ham would almost certainly come loose and spoil the sandwich - they also weren't VGA graded so there was no way I could sell them for an extortionate amount of money for no discernible reason.

 

My father had a tv with scart connection in 2001 when he was living on the gold coast. I do believe that it was a very limited model run because I haven't seen one since.
