Ladies and Gentlemen, this is my first post and as i was looking up Atari Jaguar related stuff i stumbled across this:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATARI-JAGUA...829?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d40a04fd

I seriously think this would be fantastic for a serious project and i think it would not be a problem to say install an ITX board etc.
I unfortunatly do not have the capital to do such a thing and living in New Zealand this would send the costs soaring to have it shipped here.
If this auction does not sell, the tooling is going to be scrapped. Please do not let this happen people, i am a proud owner of a Jaguar and the CD unit that plugs in on top of it hence me browsing ebay in the first place. The sellers email is in the auction as well.

The metal is worth a lot of money, by scrap he means sold to an injection mould creation company who will melt it down and use it make a new mould.
Here's an interesting link that explains the process and the costs associated with making the moulds: http://kevtris.org/Projects/moulding/index.html

Kinda old news, other than the part where he's going to scrap them. They've been messed around with, and hence the white cases aren't exactly the same as the Jag case - the back is missing IIRC.

It would be nice for it to be preserved, but it's a lot of money. It's one of those - well, if I had the money and a proper place to keep it - situations. Maybe Kev needs a new coffee table? ;) lol

Oh and yeah, eBay listings belong in the eBay thread. ;) Although it's nice to be able to discuss it without clogging the thread, I guess!

Didn't Kev spend 6K when he was in hospital? Doubt he'd wanna spend 4K on this so soon :(

Listing says the jaguar was noted for being most attractive in the eighties... yet it came out mid nineties.

    :(

Neat stuff, but yeah, that's a lot of money. It would be nice to preserve, but it needs the right collector to invest over $4000 to invest in something that isn't exactly displayable.

I'm sure it would cost close to $1000 to ship this to me.
    Those devices look mighty heavy!

Is sad to see those molds go into scrap. But those need a rich man and a good storage.

$4,500 isnt really that expensive ide balk at it if it was $10,000
and the molds probably cost $70,000 to cut

There's a long thread on AtariAge of this mold, going back many months. They are aware of it but it's possible the claim it'd be scrapped is just scare tactics. I don't know how much they really weight but locally scrap metal rarely go over $1 a pound. The whole pallet worth is probably under $1000 worth of scrap metal (my guess)

If I were to buy these, it would cost me about 5K + molding

I would have to charge $60-75 for a Jaguar shell.

Mind you it would be cinnabar red, or clear smoke color.

I don't think I would be interested in all that work in getting this to only make 10K
unless I could get 300-500 people to preorder.
