Indeed. Btw, after having had a couple of bad experiences, I've been looking into alternatives to eBay (in general, not only for dev stuff), and couldn't find any (in Europe at least), or at least none that could be taken seriously. The US has craigslist I guess, China has Baidu, Japan Yahoo, but I couldn't find anything for Europe. Everyone's hating on Google and/or Microsoft for being (quasi-)monopolists and abusing that status, yet noone ever mentions eBay...?
The email response I have is that they are using keywords. So you need to use model names, and avoid "development" "dev" "debug" Problem is re-listing the same item will result in account closure.
They closed down my TOOL action a couple years back as well for the same reason. Probably just a matter of random checks, and hoping yours slips through.
Ya, but if yours get caught they probably check your account more often for violations of that nature. If you get three strikes, your out. Or at least that's how I recall it. I remember getting a strike for trying to sell a Pro Action Replay because it allows you to cheat + bypass region checks. So lame!
I loled at the ebay notice!!! Its like we would want to pay a ton of money on devs just to get our hands on pirated copies of games. XD ridiculous.
They've been shutting down dev auctions for years, I'm not surprised they finally made it a proper policy.
I've been selling on eBay for years - they're not that clever as to look at keywords etc - they ONLY end auctions if someone reports them - it's that simple - my guess is Sony have registered all the DTL.xxxxx part numbers and asked ebay to "email them" as soon as one is listed - anyone can save a search that way - I've a *ton* of tool and test kit that I've not listed for the same reason. It seems nintendo don't seem to bother policing with their dolphin readers etc (of which I'm sat on half a dozen, as I'm sure that they'll appreciate ;-)) eBay are just like detectives - they can't detect jack - all they can do is act on information received Maxi
This got me thinking, can he file a "counter notice" with ebay for the listing? If I remember correctly a "counter notice" can help reinstate the ability to list an auction that is noted as a "copyright violation" by the IP holder. But if the IP owner filed a "trademark infringement" that cannot be stopped by a "counter notice". I haven't done it in a while, so things may have changed. Here is an old link to the process: http://www.rickdrew.com/fighting_ebay_VERO_DMCA_takedown.htm Did Sony file the violation against you or did ebay yank the listing independently of Sony?
This is a real chance to make a gaming auction site and get some traction on it to boot. Anyone wants to join?
It's been tried before and didn't work, despite a few people from this site supporting it. Ebay has the eyeballs.
That already exists, and it's honestly pretty dead and not too appealing to me. www.gamegavel.com Truth is as long as eBay is around, there will always be a huger market there. A site specifically only for games it's going to get that big.
I know man, what I mean is that now you would have a certain number of clients that would flock to said site because they have nowhere to go now (relatively speaking) On the other hand a lot of those gaming auction sites didnt really offer anything that ebay didnt have. You must have some leverage: even FB had stuff that myspace and friendster didn't even think about
The online auction site business is truly first come first served. For game dev stuff, the truth is, VERY few people actually collect it. Not nearly enough to run a business off of connecting them.
Umm... has anyone tried to "counter notice" pulled dev kit auctions? You may be able to relist them. Ebay has a process for disputing the IP holders VERO claim.
