Just saw this today. Anyone think it could create some sort of paranoia? Since I like to scan for any dev consoles on ebay (to see what's out there), it does make me twitch if something I want has a lot of lookie-loos on it.

This should be helpful for people looking for items at a certain price. If there are lots of watcher then there's the chance of the price going way up for auction items. Can also tell if you may have time to wait on getting an item or if the chance of someone else buying it first will most likely happen first.

Great. Now what I just said goes into probability calculation stuff...

Perhaps my weird ability of probability manipulation will be helped with this new feature when shopping for stuff now.

Don't ask about my claim on that. I can't seem to control it. Just have the most in-probable events happen in succession way to often to be random.

It will never be accurate. This likely is based on the people that add this their list of eBay watched auctions. I just keep the tab open until the auction is over. I've never used that eBay "watched list" thing, but I've watched many auctions. Haha.

Number of watchers doesn't equal number of bidders, I don't see the point in this really. I sold something on ebay recently and had over 40 watchers on it, but only got 6 different bidders.

Sometimes people watch items to get a estimated value ;)

I suppose it will benefit some people. Its been possible to do for ages through watchcount etc. It could put some people off from bidding, unless im.desperate for something I wouldn't bid if I knew a load of other people were gonna snipe it. It could be worthwhile for some though, interesting to see just how much attention some things get.

Yahoo Auctions has been doing this for at least 10 years. Quite handy I think.

It's mainly the point of, you have X number of potential people that could try to snipe something at the last second that I don't like. I've been seeing that more than before lately. Heh, I guess this is just something I like to be ignorant about.

This makes no difference what so ever. Whether the number was there or not the amount of people watching the auction would still be the same (within reason). I watch loads of auctions all the time and almost never bid on any of them, I just want to watch them and see how they turn out. You bidding on an auction then and you bidding on an auction now is no different, the tactics are still the same.

Where can you check it? I have my own YAJ account, I just can't bid obviously. But I'd like to check out this option... :O

I think it's no big deal for ebay - there have been websites who offered this service for a long time. You enter the auction number on that website and they tell you how many people are watching it. Only difference now is that everyone can see it immediately without using a third-party service, I don't think it'll change a whole lot.

Looks like only the maker of the auction can check how many people are watching. Other users can see how many people are bidding though.

It's not normal as you guys are saying.
The seller could always see. Not the other people.

This idiotic "like" feature is a trend. I hope it drives away the buyers, so it will be removed. Both the stupid buttons and the stupid counter.
