I have recently come across some funds and i want a new game for my ds. I love shooters so nanostray looks like an excellent game, but I've been wanting electroplankton since the day it came out, and I think it will become a sought after game in the future. Which one do you guys think I should get? Or if you think another game is better what is it? And please for God's sake no nintendogs crap :)

    Get. Electroplankton. NOW.

    It's a MUST have.

I myself don't have it and it makes me very sad. I've seen it in action.

Do have in mind that it's not a game as much as it's a toy, though.

But it is a great toy.

Nanostray does look insanely sexy, though...

    You can't get both?

It won't be sought after. Besides it's coming to the U.S. in a couple of months, just wait for it to come here.

I didn't think it was making a U.S. release. And I could get both but I am trying to put some money aside for the GPx2.

Yes, Electroplankton is indeed coming to the US. I'd personally get Nanostray if you like shooters. Challenge mode is a whole lot of fun and would probably last a bit longer than Electroplankton. I plan on picking up Electroplankton as well though, so either one would be a good choice.

    It's coming? Really??

I hadn't read about an Electroplankton release.

Then change my recommendation to "both" - or "indecisive"

Nintendo hasn't announced a date yet, but while I was still working at a GameStop this spring, our Nintendo Rep said that we were getting both Nintendogs and Electroplakton. I'd imagine Nintendo is going to milk Nintendogs for a bit before they release a "new" quirky "game".

This reminds me of a South Park episode

    "Red Rocket! Red Rocket!"

Or does it have something to do with the Hot Biscuit mod?
    ;)

It sure is cool to see quirky games make it to the west these years, though. It's a bit better than the 90s. Too bad the games aren't.

  9. I have to recommend Nanostray: other than the fact that the game is awesome, it will most likely cost ~$20 less than Electroplankton if you were to import it.

Nanostray is a ton of fun. The normal mode on the game IS pretty short at only 8 levels, and while each may take you a few play-throughs to get the hang of it, it's over pretty fast. The big draw of the game comes in the online ranking mode, and challenge mode. The latter has some pretty crazy challenges that will definitely take a while to all complete - things like completing certain levels on only one ship, having your rapid fire disabled, or having to get a Valor bonus of 50000 (a bonus awarded for minimal use of rapid fire and the item attract feature). The online ranking system is my favorite, though - after completing a stage in arcade mode, you're given a Nanocode which can be entered on the Nanostray website in order to see your ranking for that particular level as well as overall. Any shooter fan knows that half the fun of these games is comparing (and trying to beat) high scores, and Majesco has graciously developed this online means of doing just that.

It's completely worth the $30, and while I'm not knocking Electroplankton, I suggest you snag Nanostray now and then go for EP whenever it's out here.

Thanks for your opinions guys. I will probably get Nanostray today or tommorow, and Electroplankton when it comes out Stateside. Maybe Meteos too because I have heard some good things about it as well.

  11. You don't have Meteos yet? Blasphemy! Get that AND Nanostray.

    Meteos is ovverrated

  13. And here's something a bit more helpful to DS owners than negative one-liners. Basically, if you're at all a fan of puzzle games, you'll love Meteos, but even if you dislike the genre, you may get a kick out of it. The basic story premise is that the planet Meteo is spewing space junk that will destroy these other planets, and blah blah blah you must be the hero. Of course, when was story ever important in a puzzler?

Gameplay will be familiar if you've EVER played any iteration of any falling block game ever, basically: falling blocks bad. Make falling blocks go bye bye. And it is here that Meteos deviates from the standard formula. Blocks will steadily rain down, and you have to arrange them - moving them vertically ONLY - to form rows or columns of three or more of the same block, at which point the blocks will take off in flight and attempt to clear the screen - vertical columns being more powerful than horizontal rows. The catch is, depending on how many blocks you have piled on the 'rocket', it may only take off halfway up the screen before slowly sinking down again, but creating more combos either on the mass attempting to take off or on block below it will successfully let the blocks break free from the gravity of whatever planet you're trying to save.

And here's where the variety starts: There are a great deal of planets to save, each with their own look, styles of blocks, and catchy background music (and yes, in homage to Rez, the launching and clearing of blocks DO generate musical sounds that mesh with the backbeat). However, each planet also has different gravitational forces that work on your blocks. For instance, when you create a combo, the blocks may rise slowly, but be fairly immune to the added weight of extra blocks piling up on them. Or you could have a level where combos launch in a lightning-quick fashion, yet even a few blocks piled on will send them plummeting back to the ground. No two levels are exactly the same.

As a DS owner, you owe it to yourself to try Meteos. You may not like it - and some definitely don't - but glib, off-the-cuff remarks like 'overrated' do the game's creativity a great disservice and should be taken with a large chunk of salt.
