I'm absolutely addicted to this game. Got it a couple of weeks (or days, don't remember) ago and I couldn't let it go since then. Now if anyone wants to discuss the stages / music / graphics (although I wouldn't know what, every single part of this game is outstanding ), this thread provides a chance to do so.

But why I opened it in the first place is because I found an interesting flyer in the instruction manual of the Japanese version. Until now I thought the "Assassin's Case"-edition was US-only and also only given to certain people who attended the E3 1999 - Assembler bought one recently (btw: have you been able to manage it yet?).
But the advert shows a different Assassin's Case:

I haven't bothered to translate the whole text yet, but there seems to have been a highscore campaign in Japan between 11/12/1997 and 31/1/1998. You had to play the Master Mode and either take a photo of the ranking table or produce a little video to proof your score.
The best player got an ALPHA Championship Jacket, the best 100 players an "Original Attach Case".

Differences between the US and the Japanese Assassin's Case set:
JPN: No gold plated GunCon, just the regular black one
JPN: No gold plated Memory Card, but it has the golden EG logo on it
JPN: did not come w/the game (winner's already had a copy, apparently)
JPN: came with an individual Ranking Number of the competitor
JPN: came with a license plate (w/EG logo)

    US: Gold-plated GunCon
    US: Gold-plated Memory Card
    US: Includes the Game
US: No competition stuff (license plate, ranking nr)

Did anyone ever see the Japanese Assassin's Case for sale on yahoo or in shops? Me never. I'd really love to know if this one ever got to the competitors or if it only exists on the flyer. In that case, I'd assume they converted the cases into known E3 cases. Who has more information about this subject?

They guy backed out and never sold it to me. Someone must have offered him more money after it ended.

Oddly enough, I found the US Assassin's Case in a shop in Japan and bought it.

Wow, is it really worth $3,000? I thought it was $7-800 at most. I'd have bought it for that, but not $3k.

So much for ever owning that, lol.
