http://www.realtechnews.com/posts/3266 Looks like most movie companies have stopped releasing movies on this format so Sony is going to stop using them. In Japan these movies are about $40 each. I never understood why on earth someone who pay that much money for a tiny movie....
Pretty much everyone knew this was coming. While the PSP is competitve in the handheld market, it is just barely a fraction of the percentage of Movie sales. On a consumer level, why would anyone pay more for a movie you can use in a single system (PSP), when a DVD is not only cheaper, but can be played in a variety of places (Computer, Portable DVD player, number of DVD players, PS2, etc). Not to mention many people rent DVD most of the time, while UMD's are a meant more for travel purposes.
Good riddance. From the start UMD movies were a joke with no hope of success, and finally that's been proven.
If nintendo would had the 4 GB sticks back then the N64 would have been a complete succes  - err, a console playing games stored on memory sticks?????
I hope this means bargain bin hughe discounts so i can stock up on umd movies cheap because i'm not paying 15 euro's for a movie without any extra features.
This was known ages ago, with a lot of the movie companies saying they were stopping using the format "Why pay £19.99 for a UMD movie when you can buy the DVD for £14.99" You can see there point!
